Yesterday's butterfly seemed to go down very well on here so I've dug up another one that I've been hanging on to for a while.
This is a Wood White, a tiny butterfly that is only found in a few places in SW Britain and Southern Ireland, so not that common really.
I drove for 2 hours to a woods in Hereford where I knew they'd be to get this shot, crazy?, yep, that's me

Good macro detail.
Lovely details and tones in this - good capture.
Wow.... really excellent detail, the soft bg is perfect also.
The detail is very good in this sharp image. I also like the accurate and subtle colour as well as the composition which makes good use of the stem slanted across to the left and the butterfly's wings slanting in the other direction making a triangle. Superb shot.
Wow, that's top quality; execellent details.Well done!
Such a sharp sharp shot, great perch.
I have just this second taken a picture of a Wood white!
Where are the mods?
Perfection for me! Wonderful exposure if the white, terrific detail and textures and lovely background tones.
And about time as well!
Nicely done mate.
Stunning macro, beautiful!
Superb shot Geoffrey.
The mods went up on one of Andrew's shots taken on this meet Cole.
A corker mate!
Stunning macro. Beautiful pin sharp detail and lovely colour.
Cracking capture Phil. One of the UK's most rapidly declining butterflies but its showing signs of recovery in Herefordshire, thanks to a three-year conservation project being led by the Forestry Commission and Butterfly Conservation Trust to help safeguard the future of the beautiful and rare Wood White butterfly in the county, which is one of the few remaining strongholds for the species in Britain. The Wood White butterfly has become a rarer sight in England's countryside with numbers falling so low in the past decade that it is now considered endangered. Let's hope they are successful or it will only be images like this of them that you will be able to see.
Long drive, a great capture!
I can only echo what Charles said - great shot
cracking comp and detail.lesley
wow absolutely superb image congrats
A very fine close up image, beautifully captured. Unfortunately not in my area.
They dont come much sharper than this. Superb detail, DOF and presentation.
Thanks for the info Terry, I knew they were rare but didn't realise they were so rare, let's hope they survive.
An incredible macro Geoff. The detail is amazing.........Sandy
A brilliant capture.
A real pearler of a shot, it must have been a real pleasure to see this rare butterfly. I've never seen one of these before
Thanks Edmund, I've only seen them in this one location and I've only seen a few in number.
