Found this little hibernating butterfly, a Small Tortoiseshell, decorating one of the Christmas decorations. We do get butterflies over-wintering in the house and garage quite often, rarely successfully in the house due to the changes in temperature. I can only hope now the visitors have all gone and their bedrooms are no longer so warm that this little fellow makes it!

Thanks to all who have looked in, commented/voted on my previous image and for all your support and encouragement throughout 2010. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas as we did. Everyone eventually made it here despite the conditions.

Very nice, I also get overwintering butterflies, last year two tortoiseshells and one Admiral, this winter so far two tortoiseshells, over the years many more, despite my best efforts only one survived.
