It's a very good image. Good subjects, good reflections!

Nice picture and fun title, Nick. I like the way the gull is captured against the rock, and the reflection is good. It does seem to be checking out its own reflection. I don't think there is much of interest in the left side of the picture, except for the smaller rock, which isn't particularly attractive or adding anything to your gull. So I have cropped that side in my modification, and have also removed some from the other sides in order to concentrate all attention on the gull and its reflection, to place the bird on the left of the frame, and also to place the waterline (the place where the gull's body meets the water) central. Looking at the blue line of water on the rock, the image needed straightening because it leans to the left. I reduced the highlights, added a bit more contrast and sharpened, adding a touch more selective sharpening to the head and water splashes. I wonder if you are sharpening your resized image prior to uploading?
Pamela.

It would appear that great minds think alike!

I've uploaded a mod very similar to Pamela's in which I've adjusted the levels and used the shadows/highlights tool to reclaim a little detail in the duck's back. I also adjusted the colour balance, predominantly to reduce the blueness (I could have done it using curves), then I desaturated it somewhat and finally I cropped it.
With hindsight, I think that perhaps I should have sharpened it a little too as my mods. invariably seem to suffer some degradation during their uploading.
All done in CS5.

Hope this helps.

Bren.

Edit; I also straightened it using "Picasa".

Hi Both,

It was flowing down hill Grin

SHarpening, this is one of the last things I do before I put the frame on in Photoshop elements ( I use Light room for the rest) and when I export back from Lightroom I think it sharpens again for a screen maybe I should do that manually then export.

OK on the rest of the mods, I really wish you could display them all and the original so you can compare them all (EDITORS - request please) Grin It was a really murky light until we came home and then it brightened up ! so it was a bit dark anyway.

Thanks for feedback

Nick

If you really want to, you can do that using FastStone but not on here unfortunately.

I've done it a few times as it's quite useful sometimes but it is a pain as you have to resize your uploaded shot to match the size of the mods., download the whole lot and place them all in a folder.
