Photo365 - 339 - The Savoy

PeteWhile at Donna Nook I spotted this interesting textured cabbage...the Savoy (Capitata var. sabauda L.). In the supermarket they're normally less interesting, but a farmer sells fresh produce at the car park field of Donna Nook. You also find sprouts on the stem etc. I thought it would make in in...

Photo365 - 307 - honesty pod

PeteThis honesty seed pod is looking a little worse for wear and I'm surprised it's not split and scattered its seeds yet. Photographed in summer they are a lush green - backlighting still works now and creates an interesting glowing effect. Taken with the K20D and 16-45mm zoom. A low autumn sunligh...

Photo365 - 302 - dreamscape

PeteI was taking photos of berries earlier this morning backlit against the morning sun using an old Pentax M series 80-200mm zoom on the K20D, and noticed the background tree shape, and decided to switch attention to the tree. Adjusting focus so it's out but still recognisable is an interesting techniq...

PeteIts low in the sky and despite the time of year still quite warm - I'm talking about the sun. And this shot is direct into the sun with a leaf in the foreground photographed using the infrared converted Pentax *ist D and 16-45mm zoom. I processed in lightroom to convert the red tone to brown - the f...

Photo365 - 259 - it's raining

PeteI'm still making the most of the poppies that grew in my garden and I decided to try out my new hose pipe (bought for 4 from Tesco yesterday). I took the Elincrom D-Lite flash outdoors and positioned it to the right and behind the poppy heads. I then set the Pentax K20D camera up in front and at a...

PeteI sliced my pineapple up as thin as I could and placed the slither on an old Jessops lightbox to backlight it. I then used auto metering and over exposed by half a stop to get the bright effect. Taken with Pentax K-5 and 16-45mm lens.

Photo365 - 34 - kiwi slice

PeteFruit can make good still life subject - either whole or, in this case, sliced and backlit. Certain fruit such as kiwi, lemon, lime, orange look great when lit from behind as the light shining through makes the slice look almost translucent with the seeds and textures picked up as interesting patter...

Photo365 - 6 - Asparagus

PeteToday I have photographed asparagus. I've never been keen on it as a food, but I was in the supermarket last night looking at clinically perfect peppers and saw bunches of asparagus and thought - kill two new year resolutions with one stone - more photography and more cooking. The peppers didn't hav...

Pete Today I took a trip down memory lane and photographed objects against a Venetian blind. The last time I did this seriously was back in the 80s in a terraced house I lived in. I shot them on Hassleblad and they were some of may favourite shots. So today I recreated that experience using a modern...

conradEvery now and then I take some photo albums with me when I visit my mother. She has no Internet access and it's the only way for her to see what I've been up to. Before my last visit, I realised that it was a long time ago that I had shown her any photos - several years, in fact. So off I went, w...

Close Encounters

conradOf the Third Kind, no less! Not with aliens, though. With horses. Wild horses. Well, semi-wild, officially. (Is that Wildlife category, or Pets/Captive Animals? Will have to decide before I upload. Hmmm. Animals in a reserve. Wild or not???) Anyway, I took my dog on a photo outing tonight. The...
