Nick_wRecently my photography has taken a bit of a back seat. Partly I've lost a bit of interest, partly work has taken over and partly I've started to take more interest again in my other hobby of family history, due to interest from my daughter. Whats this got to do with photography you may ask? wel...

Latest project..

Nick_wIf anyone had said when I restarted in this great hobby 8 years ago, that I would be creating still life's - and enjoying it, I would have thought they were having a moment of insanity. However in that time, a lot has changed, not least in my career. I bought a camera, for something to do on an ...

EBook

Alex_MHi Everyone I have never written anything on a blog before, probably because I never had anything that I thought interesting enough to write about. Now I feel I have something that others may be interested in reading. Also as I have never written a blog before I apologise in advance for all errors ...

Nick_wStrange, the only time I think of writing a blog post is when I'm either lacking inspiration or I'm stuck. I have one project which hopefully will be coming to fruition soon. It will be a composite based one, and I know after I will be drained. So I will be returning to some landscape work for li...

A New Project (Light Painting)

Nick_wWith the inclemant weather of late, I've been tring my hand at one or two new avenues. Some have already born fruit. I have always admired still lifes, the forgotten genre in photography, there have been a few that have flown the flag on here (Chase and Cattyal to name but two). The proble...

discreetphoton Whilst we were trying to plan our wedding reception today we ended up reminiscing and pulling out the old photo albums. I still kick myself when I think about the fact that I spent three years living in heart of the Lake District, and then took up photography after moving away. So theyíre not ...

Day 176: Pomander

discreetphoton This was part of my fianceeís ensemble at her friendís wedding a couple of years ago. This is exactly the kind of thing we are having to consider now, so itís been brought out of storage for a closer inspection. I have to admit, for foam flowers they are very convincing. Iíve always liked thes...

Day 147: the workstation

discreetphoton One of the things about dong a daily photo project is that you find yourself taking hundreds of photos a week, and have to whittle it down to just a handful of shots for display. Itís easy to overlook or forget about some of the others because you move on so quickly. Today I decided that I ...

cattyalOops - almost forgot my 365 today - that'll never do. I did at least play with the still life earlier this evening so do have something to upload - not great though but hey ho...... Too much to do, not enough time to fit it in - nothing new there :)

365 Project: Day 15

Ozzie55Rather chilly outside today, so decided to try out a few still life shots..which I am pretty rubbish at, so need the practice. I just realised that red peppers are fully ripe, the yellow and orange nearly ripe, and the green are "green" or not ripe..lol that's all I have to say tonight...

Project 365-109

CaptivePhotonsI normally go for a walk on a Sunday when I'm not working, but this week has been so hectic I just couldn't be bothered and decided to vegatate at home. I took the opportunity to practice a bit of still life and threw one or two bits on the table. Larger version in the 365 group

36/365 Kenyan Stone Sculpture

Pixel_AlchemistThis is one of my second favourite stone sculpture, it also makes for a great still life subject, as it is carved out of one piece of stone, and an optical illusion which is in part why I love it. to me it speaks of two individual's coming together as one.

Pixel_AlchemistAnother wet and windy spring day here in Auckland. So naturally still life comes to the fore. One of my personal favourite pieces of stone sculpture I own, carved from one piece of white stone. Two individual's hold hands to form a heart in the space between them a mirror image of each other. Each c...

Pixel_AlchemistThis photograph official marks the completion of my first month of my 365 Project leaving eleven months to go. this Photograph is my get well card and gift from my neighbours. they are very thoughtful people and made sure the sweets were sugar free chews in three flavours. However the card is what I...

22/365 Shades of Blue

Pixel_AlchemistThis blue glass, though being totally impracticable as a wine glass due to the thickness of the glass, and its rim. I still love it, and love when light pours through it.
