Tilt-Shift Tree

conradDon't you just love all the spring blossoms on trees and shrubs? I certainly do! But just a straight shot of a tree can be quite dull, so I was looking for something unusual to do with this one. So I included the blossomless tree on the left and used the Tilt Shift App on my iPhone to try and...

Ice Rink

conradI've seen quite a few ice skating rinks in my time, both permanent and temporary, but the one on the old market in Bruges must be one of the more nicely decorated/lit. What do you think of this tree, for instance? Looks wonderful, I thought myself. And the iPhone did surprisingly well in capturing i...

Three Different Takes

conradThis time three different versions of the same image. I came across a few more apps, and although there are overlaps with others I already have, I decided to give After Focus a go. It offers the possibility of deciding about the focus after you've taken the image. And it offers two ways of determ...

Nostalgic Tree

conradI'm afraid I've been playing with iPhone apps again. :P This is a lone tree on the moors. I'm not used to seeing a lot of really nice trees in my country, there are too many young and perfectly straight ones (especially in the polders poplars were a favourite). But this is a very nice specimen. ...

Photo 365 - Number 105 - Tree

cattyalWell Friday night is Karate night so it's always a case of dashing home, getting changed and shooting back out again for an hour and a half of getting my limbs to do what they're supposed to :) I think I'm doing ok - this was my 6th week and although bits of me still go awol on occasion I am starti...

Purple Christmas

conradLast year I bought a miniature Christmas tree and everything that goes with it: tiny lights, tiny ornaments. It was small, but nice. (I live on only 27 square metres, so have to economise with space.) This year I was too late when I went for a miniature tree, they were all sold out. So I got myse...

Photo365 - 346 - Studio 109

PeteI walk past this hairdresser most days. It's usually very dull in the evening and in the day has someone having a silver blue rinse or perm. But over the last few weeks a couple of small illuminated trees in each window and a curtain trail of lights have transformed it to make it look quite pretty.....

Photo365 - 343 - Eat Soup

PeteToday was very different to yesterday, but similar. Yesterday I was in Covent Garden Today I wasn't, but had, by total coincidence, a carton of Covent Garden Soup Yesterday I was outside in the cold Today I was inside and warm Yesterday I was looking at a lovely Christmas tree Today I don't ...

PeteI'm just back from a six hour round trip to pick up an eBay win that I bid on and didn't expect to win. On the way back I called for a pee break at the Hatfield Galleria in Herts and spotted a new shop. The Arsenal Store...It opened on 19 Nov 2011 and had a bright window display with a red Christmas...

Photo 365 - Number 53 - Tree

cattyalVery few pics taken today but I did at least get the X10 out on the way to work to photograph a tree for the weekly B&W Challenge. I bought another silly outfit in the charity shop today - I was going to do a pic with it this evening but remembered that I'd left the SLR with remote at work...

Photo365 - 302 - dreamscape

PeteI was taking photos of berries earlier this morning backlit against the morning sun using an old Pentax M series 80-200mm zoom on the K20D, and noticed the background tree shape, and decided to switch attention to the tree. Adjusting focus so it's out but still recognisable is an interesting techniq...

Photo365 - 144 - birch tree

PeteA birch tree has been surrounded by saplings in a woodland project near our offices at the Turbine. I spotted it while cycling past and grabbed it with the iphone. There's the remains of a tree protector lying on the floor to the side dwarfed by the ancient birch. The colours are as created by the ...

Photo365 - 64 - Starlings

PeteEvery morning I wake to the sound of starlings chirping and squeaking. I never really take much notice. but over the last few weeks I've become aware of the interesting shapes they create at the top of the bare tree. Today's Photo365 is a silhouette using a 100mm lens to crop in just enough. ...

Photo365 - 46 - Window

PeteIt's been raining all day and making those small pattering sounds on the window. So here's my window looking out. Focus is on the reflections of the background tree in the drops. A wide aperture was used to make the tree branches totally out of focus and abstract in look.
