Elterwater and Huntingstyle Crag

Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, is the beautiful Langdale valley and the picturesque village of Elterwater.Elterwater
In the lakes, they like to confuse people by calling villages the same names as the lake they are near to: Windermere, Grasmere, Elterwater are all examples. The village of Elterwater is cunningly right near the lake of Elterwater – which is handy. It features The Britannia Inn which is one of the finest pubs in the lakes in my opinion.
The far end of Elterwater lake has great views of the lake with the Langdale Pikes towering above. This is best accessed from the carpark on the B5343 . You can also get some good shots of the river Brathay on the walk to & from the carpark on a still day.
Unfortunately when I was there last, the only available view was of thick drizzle and murk. So Andy Dippie of Northscape has kindly provided an image to illustrate what you should see.
Huntingstyle Crag
An alternative option is to drive/walk up the small pass from elterwater up towards the High Close youth hostel. Park your car as high up as possible so it doesn’t appear in your pictures then ascend from the view point till you find a view across the valley that you are comfortable with. Frow the very top you may also be able to see down onto Windermere & Grasmere.
In the winter dawn breaks from the Windermere end of the valley illuminating the various features. I found that a zoom lens (17-85mm) was ideal as I could extract individual details as well as wide sweeps of the valley.
Well worth getting up for!
