Widemouth Bay
Submitted by lobsterboy
Widemouth Bay is approximately 3 miles (5km) south of Bude Cornwall and is a good location for surfing and seascape shots. At the more northerly end of Widemouth there is a large sandy area that becomes increasingly more exposed as the tide goes out. To either side of this area are some great rock formations.
There is plenty of parking right near the beach and many campsites and other accommodation in the locality.
If the weather is good for surfing you can spend hours here just taking action shots as the surfers do their thing. A long lens is ideal to help get in close or perhaps a waterproof housing will let you get in the surf and amongst the action.
Don’t forget to checkout the spectators as they can sometimes provide as much interest as the surfers.
For landscapers, the summer brings a great opportunity for seascape sunsets with the interesting rock formations as some great foreground material. I found myself drawn to the north end of the beach where the triangular rocks worked well with a wide angle lens.
A word of warning though the tide does come in quick across this long flat expanse so be careful with your gear if the tide is coming in as you don’t want to end up scrambling to rescue your gear, as I did!
