Southwark Cathedral

Nestling on the south bank of the Thames is the gothic gem of [linkl=http://www.southwark.anglican.org/cathedral/]Southwark Cathedral[/link], surrounded by railway lines and commercial buildings it is often overlooked but well worth seeking out.The main feature of the cathedral is a huge, Victorian vaulted, nave. Tthe stone of which seems to glow in the afternoon sun. As you explore the cathedral, memorials and statues appear each rich in detail and interest. The exterior of the cathedral has some interest but due to the proximity of nearby buildings and the railway line make it very difficult to capture the entire building.
To use a camera inside the cathedral you need to invest in a photography permit. The current charges per person are:

Video Recording £5.00
Permits may be purchased from the Cathedral Shop.
Please note that the purchase of a permit does not permit filming during Services or Concerts. Separate rates apply for commercial photography and filming.
The cathedral has toilet facilities and a very good café, where the coffee & walnut cake comes highly recommended.
Getting There
The nearest station is London Bridge. Alternatively take the tube to Bank/Monument station, walk across London Bridge and once over the river look for some steps going steeply down on the right hand side. Walk down these and turn right to get to the cathedral.
The cathedral can also be visited as part of a longer walk along the Southbank of the Thames taking in Tower bridge, More London, Borough Market, Tate Modern and The London Eye.
