One of my favourite locations to photograph is the Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire.
This large park and woodland is situated near Ringshall on the A4506 and runs across the borders of Herts and Bucks, along the main ridge of the Chiltern Hills.
Ashridge is made up of 5000 acres of woodland and open countryside including many miles of footpaths giving superb views of the down lands of the Chiltern Hills. This area is also well known as home for a rich variety of wildlife, including many species of birds and plant life.
The main focal point of the Ashridge estate is the monument, erected in 1832 to the Duke of Bridgewater and is situated at the top of the main drag where there is ample parking for visitors throughout all seasons.
For a small fee you can climb to the top of the Monument and experience a great view of the surrounding woodland and also nearby Ivinghoe Beacon.
After which, a two minute walk will take you to the National Trust gift shop and restaurant where a variety of snacks and drinks can be purchased. (Failing that, my mother-in-law does a great full English Breakfast and only lives a few miles away..lol.
As I originate from that area, I'm often seen there throughout the year. However my favourite seasons have to be Spring, bringing a mass of Bluebells and young Beech trees and Autumn with it's many shades of golden trees and Bracken.
These two seasons attract many photographers to the area and an early start will guarantee a stunning display of colour and magnificent landscape scenery.
The two Dagnall shots on the right are taken from the car park at the Ivinghoe end of Ashridge, between Ivinghoe Beacon and the edge of Ashridge forest looking over to Dagnall.
Well I know that some of you live a long way from Ashridge but if you are in the Hertfordshire area at any time, it may be worth visiting Ashridge and experiencing the local beauty and woodland scenery.
