The scenery of the Canadian Rockies is tremendously stunning, from the turqoise colour of the glacier-fed lakes, to the huge bare rock faces of the mountains.
The Icefields Parkway has plenty of attractions including many lakes, waterfalls and wildlife, with sightings of bears and elk being common. There are also many wild flowers growing during the summer.
The National Parks are situated in the state of Alberta, with the closest being Banff, which is roughly a two hour drive from Calgary. The best time to go photographing would probably be in the summer (these shots were taken in mid-July) as the colours stand out so well. For most of the Winter and Spring months, the lakes will be frozen, however I'm sure the snow-covered mountains will look spectacular. Of course, most people travelling to the area in Winter are there for the snow sports.
I would highly recommend this as a place to visit and you'll never be stuck for photo opportunities!
