United KingdomI specialise in Landscape and Fine Art Images that I subsequently print on media such as Canvas and Textured Papers. Most of my images are large - from 30'' x 20'' (76.2 x 50.8cm) up to 40'' x 72'' (101.6 x 182.88cm)
Living within 100 metres of the sea and a few kilometres from the mountains in Mid Wales, most of my images involve sea, sunsets, sand dunes and mountains in some way or other.
I also do portraits and commercial work for local business and government for use in publicity materials and on the web. My work can be seen on my website johnrees.com
My background is in Sales and Marketing and I worked for large and small hi-tech companies from 1976 until 2001, working around the world. In 2003, I retired and moved to Aberystwyth and pursued my passion for Photography.
When I compose an image, I want the viewer to see what I saw and feel what I felt, in short, I am trying to create images that have Visual Impact and cause a reaction. This is a big job, as the world is full of great photographers, but it gives me the incentive to keep on learning and trying to improve. I look at the work of many photographers such as Ansel Adams, Jim Brandenburg, Michael Fatali, Joe Cornish and Charlie Waite and I think - 'What awesome images! - what can I learn from them?'
Every day I wake up and wonder what I can achieve and what images I can create. I shoot a lot and dump a lot and that's the beauty of working with Digital cameras. Whether I produce images that stir the emotions or not is not for me to decide. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the Viewer decides. I hope you have enjoyed looking at some of my images. If you have any comments, I would love to hear them.
I have a degree in Economics and Social Psychology and I am also a member of National Association of Photoshop Professionals and the Bureau of Freelance Photographers.
