About Nick Owen - B.A. M.A. Cert. Ed.

I love exploring personal experiences and key life events with people. Now, after thirty years as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I feel that I can help people more through creative art and photography.

At the age of six I started taking pictures with a box brownie. At eleven, I started using a video camera. In my teens, I bought my first Single Lens Reflex, and started to work in my own dark room. Then in my twenties, I flat-shared with a photography degree student, who taught me higher level skills. I was also very fortunate to win a top of the range Canon EOS camera in a lottery, which I now see as the nudge of fate. However, my artistic influences were famous landscape artists such as Claude Lorraine rather than photographers. Photography remained a hobby.

Ten years ago, I resigned as Director of the Oxford School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, leaving behind the constraints of formal therapy to focus on the arts and more creative ways of helping others. I bought my first digital camera.

I am now working with people to express their vision and emotion in words and images. I use my finely tuned communication skills to help people explore their worlds in terms of image
