Where Can I Get a Canon AE1 Repaired?
The empty battery compartment may be a clue here... Struggled to get one today, nothing in the shops ("battery for a what?"), no UK sellers on eBay but found a UK website that sells them. One Duracell 28L on order. Doesn't your DIGITAL take batteries then ?No, but that isn't working either. It won't turn on for some reason...

My advice is don't treat the 650D as an Entry Level Camera. It's closer to a professional camera than an entry level one. If someone who wanted to buy a DSLR for the first time and want to have a camera to do the odd shots here and there, I would tell them to either get a Compact Camera or DSLR no higher than the 600D.

Quote:Good point, although the D90 ..........no MLU, so the image quality might not be comparable when used with certain lenses, and certain shutter speeds. I understand what you say about body material etc, but in the D90 if you put it in live view will it not have a form of mirror lock up? My view is that canon or Nikon do not compete directly, 450D lower in cost but very close in fun...

canon AE1 lenses
Look on ebay, you will find EOS>FD adaptors. Like others have said, there are plenty of disadvantages. I'm sure the cheap adaptors have a significant drop in optical quality too. I think there will be a crop factor too??? So [maybe] goodbye to wideangle lenses. There were some Canon specific adaptors from Canon for the top end lenses. - long lens L series etc I think there pretty rare. I...

On a budget
The other side to looking out for second hand...(or should that be 'pre used' in this world of political correctness) lenses is that I am building up a collection of 'pre used' cameras too. I still have my old Olympus Trip camera, which was given to me as a Christmas present back in 1975, A Voigtlandar Vito B, (fixed lens) made between 1954-60..a Praktika IV, 1959-60... a Canon 750, 1988-90 a...

Your favourite film camera
I don't know what causes the bleeding. I lived in Spain for several years and originally thought that the heat may have caused it, but a good proportion of the 9000's that I have seen have got the blight. Something that moves that slowly consistently (I would guess something like 1mm in 10 years :D) must have an application in research somewhere! When Konica Minolta stopped making/selling film...

Having recently had some disappointment with a Tamron lens i purchased 10days ago - I would see if your local shop would allow you take take a few shots on different lens and compare on a laptop - I did this yesterday with a Tamron zoom, canon zoom, and L lens (which was way outside my price range) but thought maybe good as a bench mark - i saw an immediate difference between the Tamron 17-270 ...

How long and what got you into photography?
Got going back in early sixties,my dad and uncle would spend hours in their darkroom (AKA mums bathroom) hand tinting negatives I loved watching the print emerging in the dishes. Dad took me to a Russian trade show at earls court and I ended up with a russian twin lens reflex, cant remember the make wish i still had it might be worth a bob or two. Had various cameras over the years Rollieflex...

Hugo, Thanks for your PM, and also what you have posted here. Forgot all about mrcad. The break on the battery holder is clean and may well be sorted out with a bit superglue. I can still load batteries and insert the large part of the holder, then place the small locking piece in place and then lock, and it still works. On Wikipedia yesterday pm and there is mention of the T90 battery holde...

loosing clarity when zooming in
Yes, same lens on all shots, the one it came with. I took it back today, and while I was in the store a lady was packing another 3100 that had been returned. I was asked what I wanted to do so opted for the Canon 500D. I am certain Nikon are great cameras, but for me the whole episode has been a nightmare. I shall take some pictures tomorrow on identical settings with identical subjects and ...

Thanks Thincat, duly noted. Now I don't need to make a fool of myself getting the wrong lens. Oh which shall I choose first?

Focus Screen Cleaning
Hi, Thanks all for the advice. However if all else fails I've just found out that new focus screens can be purchased from nikon spares, so thats a safety net if disaster strikes. (lol). Thanks again Phil

Film, digital or both?
Jacqui I have loads of slides going back a good 40 years and yes they are in pretty good condition, especially the Kodachrome. The colours are much as they were on the day they were taken. However, as soon as you digitise them I can guarantee that they will be tweaked. They nearly all need it. Nice link! Malcolm
