You can always add a soft focus filter for those who want it! ;) (Does anyone still use them?) Or a tiny bit of gaussian blur. What you can't do is add detail which isn't there..............

Why I have to leave Olympus
USE FILM again !! My boy was GIVEN an Olympus OM2n with 50mm f1.8 and 70-150mm Zuiko lenses and gets very good results -- no 'SOFTWARE' problems at all -- I develop his B&W and most of his C41 or take it to a High Street Pharmacy which has an account with SIGFOTO laboratory who do an excellent job of processing and printing C41.

Ahhh, Lurcio (Frankie Howerd) Sorry, but I couldn't resist that one! ;) I'm sure if you worked in a camera shop 20 years ago, you'll remember Up Pompei. Anyway, come on put some of your images up, it's your duty as a Lurcio to do this and I'm sure your images will be great. The ides of March are upon you. Yes I do remeber watching Up Pompei :D And as Joe B said "This is only a forum" and ...

Better Cameras DO Take Better Photographs
So far as I recall, Cartier-Bresson trained as a painter, and then tried photography. Using the usual and somewhat clumsy cameras of the time, his work was not particularly good. Then the Leica range became available, and was just what he needed for the instant drawing he wanted to do. At the time it would have been the latest thing in technology, very expensive, with new models, lenses, and a...

No idea - I didn't get a normal one to compare against ;-) From the photographs I have seen comparing them it does offer slightly greater sharpness and detail. Given you can't recover such things once lost by an AA filter, and given that many people would pay the same amount extra between the D800/D800E on a lens for as much better or less, I kind of think it is worth it. The other way o...

Kit for film development
The amount of photographic chemicals disposed of through domestic drains by an amateur raises concerns when processing colour that is composed of some nasties. Black and white processing chemicals are mainly of acid and alkali compounds. We dischage more toxic chemicals from the vast array of cleaning soups seen stacked on supermarket shelves

megapixels how much is too much
Whether that is accurate depends on the newspaper standard I was referring to national newspapers which I know best but, as you say, the same standards broadly apply to local papers. JPG is the world standard for editorial submission now and anyone who supplied anything else would be out of the frame. For publications to accept RAW files would be like a company car trasnport manager who l...

Amateur Photographer D800 test
There is a lot of good feedback. Digressing to D3s (which I have) compared to D4, I bought the D3s within a month of release at £3,400. As an NPS member I could probably get aa D4 within a month - but at around £5,300. There is no doubt the D4 is a better camera - but for me not 50% better - and my D3s makes first class A3 prints :) Where the D800/e cames into my equation (not necessarily an...

Mirrorless is clearly significant new competition - but there is no sign yet of Nikon going into decline Well Nikon are right in there with their 1-series mirrorless which has sold better than expected, I gather, despite its sensor which is smaller than 4/3. It is only Canon who are refusing to enter the competition......... so far. Only a matter of time though! ;)

Strawman, the fake Chuck Westwood knows about as much about cameras as the real one. Who is Chuck Westwood, is it the ill conceived love child of Chuck Westfall the manager of the Camera Divison Technical Information Dept of Canon U.S.A, someone who pretty well knows his photography stuff and Westwood a fading radio 1 DJ known for pimping cars. Mental image of someone rushing about grabbin...

Which one? Bronica SQ-A or ETRS?
Hi - I have been the very happy owner and user of the Bronica ETRSi for the past five years. I was lucky enough to come across a 300,000 special edition with film back, on e bay, in perfect condition and excellent working order. I have put together a very reliable system over the years, from careful purchases on e bay (it is always best to check the seller's e bay score - nothing much less ...
