No idea - I didn't get a normal one to compare against ;-) From the photographs I have seen comparing them it does offer slightly greater sharpness and detail. Given you can't recover such things once lost by an AA filter, and given that many people would pay the same amount extra between the D800/D800E on a lens for as much better or less, I kind of think it is worth it. The other way o...

megapixels how much is too much
Whether that is accurate depends on the newspaper standard I was referring to national newspapers which I know best but, as you say, the same standards broadly apply to local papers. JPG is the world standard for editorial submission now and anyone who supplied anything else would be out of the frame. For publications to accept RAW files would be like a company car trasnport manager who l...

Beginner needing help with lighting
As well as flash lighting, you can use much cheaper bulb constant lighting, though flash is good for freezing movement and stopping pupils from shrinking in the bright constant lighting. How big is the subject you are shooting? is it table top products/pets etc or full length people shots? Do you want bright fashion shots or moody one light images? Stuart

Critique Gallery
That is and always has been the ethos of the site. However, it's hard enought to "police" the quality of critique in the Critique Gallery, and would be an impossible task in the main gallery. It's really up to individual members to make that effort. One problem often referred to in that regard is people being put off giving honest critique because of the fear of a bad response from the poster ...

RE: Alternative models
Blue Carrot Studios in Nottingham advertise themselves as Alternative and Fetish studios, I looked at them last year when I was looking for a interesting venue to shoot a Dark Fusion dance group They have (had) models on their books that you could hire at the same time as the studio, I believe some of them were also TFP as well I'm not sure if they are still going as the web site seems to...

Yes, what I describe is for a single light.
Forum: Lighting
I think a good photographer and good model can produce great shots together, However, with the addition of other talented team members your work can really be pushed to a new level! I just wish people were prepared to spend more on their shoots so that more photographers could hire a good team, but most models wanting shoots can barely afford the photographer let alone the rest of the crea...

Taking portraits at home
Thanks :) No I didn't, the room is entirely white, including the floor so maybe that helped, but I just stood her in front of the window but at the back of the room so the light was softer and that was it.

DSLR damp squibs?
The 1Dx is really an update on the 1D4 It's a replacement for the 1D4 and the 1Ds3. The lines have been merged. But it leaves the highest res canon as the 5D3 which is way behind the Nikon D800 in resolution.

Lighting, triggers and portability
@ mr goatsmilk, you won't regret buying the travel pack once you start using studio lights outdoors, you could always use the sun as a second light as well as speedlites. A slight niggle with the bowen outdoor kits they sell is that the power leads from the pack to the light are very short, about 3 meters, which is a bit limiting I reckon. My own way of working outdoors is to just use one of...

Photo Audit
Audit and review is great as it allows you to see what you could improve. As well as partially doing this from time to time I'm also taking a different tack to you by trying to dwell on a different subject area for a month or more, then seeing if I'm in a genre/style that keeps me interested enough to commit to that area and no longer be a "Jack of All" area's. Fashion photography is in vogue...

That still doesn't explain how you define and measure '50% resolution' The same way as "everybody else" who wants to do it ;) Fuji did it (and still do) for their films, comparing resolving power in lp lines/mm with a 1000:1 target and a 1.6:1 target. You can achieve something similar by 1/ scanning a 1000:1 target and printing out a copy having significantly reduced the target contrast so...
