Reading photos left-to-right
Sooty_1 wrote:Not so much for constructed sets, but the way things are shot, eg on location (such as riding across the desert). Also, not for every shot, but for moments when the audience has to identify who is who - such as a gunfight scene. The baddie tends to be on the right, the goodie on the left. It wasn't just told to me, but demonstrated in several films (Gunfight at the OK Corral, H...

Mirrorless is clearly significant new competition - but there is no sign yet of Nikon going into decline Well Nikon are right in there with their 1-series mirrorless which has sold better than expected, I gather, despite its sensor which is smaller than 4/3. It is only Canon who are refusing to enter the competition......... so far. Only a matter of time though! ;)

Pseudo HDR - what do you think?
so if 5000 people were raped and murdered to get a final image that looks good, that's ok then Isn't that what's called 'reductio ad absurdum' ? ;)

D800 vs D800E sample photo at 100%
An interesting article from Nikon on the D800, it covers much of what is debated in this thread. They also decided to mention diffraction. Stopping aperture down increases depth of field, making the foreground and background sharper. Stop aperture down too far, however, and diffraction will actually cause the image to lose definition. The effects of diffraction are partly influenced by the ...

People Leaving EPZ
Cheers Stephen and Pete - back in the old days when I worked in IT and spent all day online it was easy to be involved in ePZ. Not so much so now as I work outdoors all the time (in the Lake District, so it is good from a taking photographs perspective) and have a wee boy (and another enroute). But I shall do my best ;-)

"dresses, scarves, stoles, jewellery and books. a very focused outlook of the product....I also need to take short high quality product videos" A decent compact and two bright daylight corrected 500W equivalent energy saving bulbs. - The advantage of the compact is that its smaller sensor will give you much better depth of field (very good for close up detail and jewellery ) and save you bu...

My view on it is this: A limited camera will restrict the type of shots you can do well. If you stay within those limitations, you can produce pictures as good as any more expensive camera. A more fancy camera with a better lens will open up a wider range of shots that you can do well, and more easily. I speak from experience here - I used to use an all manual Practika MTL, and my earliest p...

Pixel count
I always understood the 'problem' with the 5DII and similar was that the sensor was capable of resolving so much detail it showed up the flaws in older/cheaper lenses? I switched last year to full frame and my plan was to buy decent, fast, third party lenses. The reviews of the standard zoom equivalents all reported deficiencies. It isn't that I wouldn't be able to use them, or that quality ...
