Photography Club comps
Then I would suggest you all draft your issues in a clear and concise way and email them to the commitee members, as I have just done with the camera club I was attending, have now left for a club more friendly and hands on the cameras and members evenings that can be about anything you want, photographically. I have had a response from them saying that they will discuss my issues at the ne...

Macro photography
Hmm I have always avoided the foucsing ring when stacking (for the reason stated in my previous post). Course it might just be that the difference at macro distances in magnification across a small subject is not enough to break the blending feature. Also something you might want to try out is this method: link looks interesting - certainly for giving a quicker in field result than a full ...

New to photography :)
Don't forget that if its all a bit too much to take in, you can set up for Shutter priority (Tv mode, I think it is on Canon). You can set your shutter speed to somewhere around the 1/500 for quick moving objects and the Aperture will take care of itself. You'll be limited to only 1/200 sec if you're trying to use your pop-up flash so try to ensure your light is pretty good and you can manage...

I personally would go for the 24-70. I'm in the market for one at the moment as it is. Also, my dad was talking to a well known railway photographer a couple of weeks ago that shot Canon and he was saying that he wouldn't have a 24-105 given now as he's had 4 in the past (warranty replacements) and they were all lacking in sharpness and build quality!

confused
if something is moving quick then you need a quick shutter speed, to stop a moving object use a low shutter speed. I follow the first part Fender, that is if you want to freeze the action. but you lost me on the last part.

Focusing / Sharpness Issues!
I would say you need to consider the charactistics of the lens in question. You have ruled out the obvious like camera shake etc. Firstly not all lenses will necessarily perform 'best' at small apetures. Second I, would consider the quality of the lens - not all Canon or Nikkor or other big brand lenses are created equally, as this website demonstrates (just Nikon I'm afraid but gives you...
