New to photography :)
Don't forget that if its all a bit too much to take in, you can set up for Shutter priority (Tv mode, I think it is on Canon). You can set your shutter speed to somewhere around the 1/500 for quick moving objects and the Aperture will take care of itself. You'll be limited to only 1/200 sec if you're trying to use your pop-up flash so try to ensure your light is pretty good and you can manage...

'Long Exposure's' advice for a novice.
Well I took all the advice given onboard during my holiday and produced some pleasing results in my view. We were really lucky with the weather and had some decent evenings with nice sunsets. I'm still learning all this and feel I can do better but really enjoyed experimenting. Mumbles and Gower is a beautiful area and it was my first time there. I have had a response from them saying that they will discuss my issues at the ne...

[quote) Conversely though, when I see that an amazing picture has been taken with 'entry-level' kit, I am lifted immediately because I might just one day be able to come close to that particular result. It will make you feel better if you look up the famous picture by Bert Hardy, of two Blackpool Showgirls sitting on the railings on Blackpool seafront, they are laughing together as the wind...

more macro help
What you may not realise is by 1:1 because of the magnification the effect of camera shake increases by about 5 shutter speeds. VR which your lens has not got can help. Increasing the ISO can help. Using flash as the main light source (easiest with the flash off the camera) can help. Using a tripod especially the type with a swinging center column can help. Otherwise as already advised i...
