What will Canon do about the D800?
Pixel binning will allow the user to have the benefits of very high resolution or very low noise depending on their requirements. I think this may be the basis on which the 41Mp Nokia sensor for camera phones will be operating. As there is no optical zoom, resolution will be reduced when you use the digital zoom, thereby keeping the noise level the same and you will still get a decent photo...

Amateur Photographer D800 test
There is a lot of good feedback. Digressing to D3s (which I have) compared to D4, I bought the D3s within a month of release at £3,400. As an NPS member I could probably get aa D4 within a month - but at around £5,300. There is no doubt the D4 is a better camera - but for me not 50% better - and my D3s makes first class A3 prints :) Where the D800/e cames into my equation (not necessarily an...

Once we realise how important fossil fuels are to our economic and industrial activities then its use for transport may be even higher taxed. So its not so much the price of electric V's petrol today, as the comparison in the future. Battery technology is advancing rapidly so I am happy to play a wait and see on this. But I also agree no Electric car has passed my economic assessment in today's...

What is a good DSLR to start with?
I would check what is recommended for your course. It is probably best you hold off on purchasing till you need to. See what kit they have and what you can borrow. I know someone doing a photography degree now who is not using a digital camera.

CS6 . . . opinions anyone?
Yes it's good that some of Lightroom's better features are making the move to PS. I am on the fence about the darker LR inspired interface which has also crossed over to other CS6 programs such as AI

5D2 replacement
Based on past experience, expect it to drop to @ £2,600 once the initial rush is over, then about a year later £2,200, and wait another year for it to get to £1,800. Just based on watching the trends of past Canon cameras. I agree with you £3,000 is too much, but I bet you there will be a lot of people pre-ordering. The interesting comment regarding detail between the D800 and 5D MKIII is w...

"dresses, scarves, stoles, jewellery and books. a very focused outlook of the product....I also need to take short high quality product videos" A decent compact and two bright daylight corrected 500W equivalent energy saving bulbs. - The advantage of the compact is that its smaller sensor will give you much better depth of field (very good for close up detail and jewellery ) and save you bu...

What do YOU aim to create in your photography? Something visually stunning, or a heart felt feeling?
One of the funniest phrases I've heard about business and planning is "paralysis of the analysis" - just sounds amusing. But it does have meaning... If you get too embroiled in the planning, attempting to get it perfected before you even start, then you never get anything done. I've had to learn this fast this year - you need to get the ball rolling before you know everything sometimes,...

If you are careful and ensure camera and tripod is perfectly level for the central exposure you can get a pano format for architecture even with a standard wide angle lens. The following was a stitch of three images. Yes it needed some minor perspective correction in photoshop - I didn't need to correct any stitching errors. http://www.ephotozine.com/user/nick-w-61515/gallery/photo/claren...

Pixel count
I always understood the 'problem' with the 5DII and similar was that the sensor was capable of resolving so much detail it showed up the flaws in older/cheaper lenses? I switched last year to full frame and my plan was to buy decent, fast, third party lenses. The reviews of the standard zoom equivalents all reported deficiencies. It isn't that I wouldn't be able to use them, or that quality ...

That's a useful suggestion. The only reason I said the 300 is cause, I only want to take two lenses with me. I thought I may go the zoo, or that there may be some interesting architecture on side of buildings etc that I'd like to get close to with my 70-300. I'll take your advice, and visit Birmingham with my new lens + another to see how it goes.

And you in turn have made unsubstantiated assertions that the EP3 system is inherently better (by unsubstantiated I mean reference to articles that support it). Call it quits, eh? Crikey, this is a prickly forum. The fact that the mirror-less cameras determine focus at the sensor is "inherently better" because that's where the final image is being recorded - pretty uncontroversial...

Thanks guys :) I went for the 20mm Canon in the end, very impressed with warehouse express delivery :) Seems like a nice toy; out of interest when i calibrated it, it came in at 20.8mm, not 20mm.
