I'd rather just have half as many pixels and spend the rest on beer.

This instrument is designed for visual use, rather than photographic. Long exposures would not be feasible as it's an alt-azimuth mount. You could probably get reasonable lunar shots in prime focus mode (camera attached with t-mount) but watch out as I don't see any way of attaching a couterweight. You could also probably get reasonable shots of planets by simply photographing handheld through...

Already stumped up the cash for an Astrotrac after reading a review of it in Sky at Night magazine. I'll definitely be getting the issues with astrophotography in it. Seems not to complicated to set up reasonably quickly in a remote location. And thanks for the link MrGoatsmilk, just what I've been looking for all in one place, bonus! Thanks for all your help everyone, hopefully I'll have ...

I bought a telescope at the beginning of this year - I can recommend the Skywatcher 127 on a computerised 'GoTo' mount. I've struggled with imaging though. Mainly down to focusing issues. It's more involved than you might think. This is a good site with a lot if useful info and a bunch of friendly contributors. Dave

I got into photography through an interest in astronomy and have been doing astrophotography for 20 years. It's possible to get good pictures with fairly simple gear, your Canon should be very well suited to it. Manual exposures are what you'll be needing almost all the time, as cameras find it difficult to meter such things as the Moon. A full Moon can often be captured well with an exposure o...

Star Trails

Not to worry Mark, the moon will be rising later tomorrow night so we will have darker skies then (assuming we can see them hopefully).

At it's next closest america will try and build an impressive suspension bridge from earth to mars so future visits are more convenient and cheaper due to not needing spacecraft. if it comes to around 28 million miles next time that will actually be close enough for the gravitational pull to physically remove the moon from our earth which will cause havoc with tides and other elements on the...

Which DSLR?

You are obviously going to attach your camera to an astro telescope. This can introduce major complications - and is something few DSLR owners do. If your telescope does not track star movement you will get significant blurring due to the earths rotation during a 30 second exposure. It is unlikely that a beginners level DSLR will function normally with an astro telescope as there are no elect...
