Critique Gallery
That is and always has been the ethos of the site. However, it's hard enought to "police" the quality of critique in the Critique Gallery, and would be an impossible task in the main gallery. It's really up to individual members to make that effort. One problem often referred to in that regard is people being put off giving honest critique because of the fear of a bad response from the poster ...

The Decisive Moment
And it must be even more difficult to start up and survive these days. Yes, so much competition and, in the media, so many people working for nothing. I became a photographer after answering an ad in my local paper, The Kent and Sussex Courier...yes they advertised for a trainee. Today such staff jobs hardly exist and where they do are poorly paid and insecure. When I first went to F...

Local Camera Clubs ?
I must admit to having little interest in current camera club vogue here in South Bucks for street scenes and high key almost at the detriment of any other subject; luckily today's whims and fads will fall to the bottom of the pile to be followed by another fashion; the danger with the camera club mentality is that like begats like and some but not all members end up imititaing each other endea...

What do YOU aim to create in your photography? Something visually stunning, or a heart felt feeling?
One of the funniest phrases I've heard about business and planning is "paralysis of the analysis" - just sounds amusing. But it does have meaning... If you get too embroiled in the planning, attempting to get it perfected before you even start, then you never get anything done. I've had to learn this fast this year - you need to get the ball rolling before you know everything sometimes,...

You're not the instruction booklet. Being a doctor, I guess she is intelligent to read it, and to understand what you were saying as everyone else on the course seems to have. Perhaps she was just too busy to do the task and wanted an excuse. Re: metering - I find that I was pretty good at correcting for centre-weighted metering even with film, apart from the odd occasion I turned the com...

help needed to improve photos.
I agree with Jestertheclown. I used to upload images for votes as I thought was a good way of seeing how good/bad my photos were. Nothing could be further from the truth. I now upload for critique as this is the best place to get feedback on images. Thanks to feedback I received on 1 image of Jamie Archer I was able to go away and have an other go and came back with a far better image.

Feral riots really annoy me.
Something I suggested many years ago in a letter to our newspaper; we should have rehabilitation centres for government beaurocrats, elected members who have been there for long periods, and any other government employees who demonstrate a break with reality; just to give them a bit of a jar to remind them who is paying their salaries, and keep them reasonably sane.

I have decided to go for another property now. It is quite a bit more expensive but is in a good location and it has 9ft high ceilings. Lucian It would seem that Lucian has taken on board at least one piece of the the advice given i.e. a larger property would be needed to house his backdrops etc. Presumably during the "It's suddenly gone quiet" period Lucian had been busy searching fo...
