Thanks for the feedback. I have an android phone with apps but I really need to know if a wired intervaometer will keep the shutter going for as long as I want as I may purchase one if it does, it would also make life a lot easier.

I have checked the screws but none of them were loose. I have cleaned the electrical contacts (gently) and allowed the alcohol to evaporate off them and put a lens back on and fired off a load of shots in the back and its working fine. Just have to see if this problem reoccurs now.

The D7000 from a legitimate source is on £80 Nikon cash back so around £800 after rebate from WEX, compared to about £999 for the D300s. I use both - the D7000 has usefully more resolution, and is better for 14 bit files. The D300s has better build quality and better AF. With the 24 MP D3200 just announced a 24MP "D400" at maybe £1,500 launch price is possible by the end of this year. A D700...

Autofocus on the D300/ D300s is a complex beast. Is the switch to the right of the lens ( as you look at the camera from the front) set to S for single shot, C for continuous (track) autofocus or M for manual? I went to Jessops to buy a Canon 550d a few months back. However, the sales chap was desperate for me to buy a Sony alpha something or other and was giving me the full sales patter. I presume he was on some kind of commission. Apparently the Sony camera is FAR superior to Canon as it has IS built into the body!! I ended up coming away with the Nikon D5000 because it felt good in my hands :P...

Rawtherapee gets some good reviews, and is compatible with the the D300, plus many other cameras. I've used it in the past, and I assume it's got better. :) Oh, and it's free. ;) I had a look at this yesterday. Pretty good program. Thanks for the tip.

I used the Nikkor 16-35mm for a while on my D80 before switching to D700. Amazingly sharp. Also seen the 18-35 and 17-35 (blows them away!) How about the 20mm AF? Great for IR too and gives 28mm approx Really sharp, really light!

Often it just amounts to personal preference; some people like a variety of bodies other stick to the same body; I was about to say that it could also apply to relationships but as it may offend I won't say it. ;)
