Flash is not a dirty word..
I use a Nikon SB800 with my D70 and it is good for shooting outdoor pictures against the light as long as you use it's capabilities to balance with the ambient light. I usually set minus 0.5 to 1 stop.

Tips / settings for Canon Speedlite - help!
Strawmans posting is a really good explanation - one further thing to consider is that as the flash duration is typically 1/1000s or faster, and the synch speed usually 1/250s or slower, then adjusting the shutter speed will have no effect on the amount of flash the camera sees - only the ambient light. I dont think this quote is accurate. When i am in manual mode and set my camera to fast ...

Stofen Omnibounce.
Sam - If you feel that it helped your photos, fair enough. I can't and won't argue with that :) But my opinion stands. The physical size of the lightsource relative to subject remains the same. A piece of tupperware will make no difference to that. When a given amount of light disperses in all (omni) directions in an uncontrolled manner, it is basically wansting all the juice, and the amou...

Sell zoom and buy prime???
Im not a wildlife photographer at all but i Have used an OLD canon 300mm f/2.8L lens (manual focus). For this it was important to use a tripod. The results were nice and sharp, even wide open! I would recommend a tripod, or at the very least a monopod. Perhaps this will help as it will restrict you less? You don't say if you are shooting RAW or JPEGS? Obviously RAW will give you a better ...
