Just how good are you?
This has been a really interesting thread for me as it looks likely that I will be going into the Intermediate group at my camera club next season and someone recently commented on my EPZ portfolio that I should re-classify myself as intermediate rather than beginner. Despite the fact that it seems I must be producing better images I feel that I still have so much to learn. I would love to ge...

Wedding Camera
Sorry to dig up an older topic, I just read through this and found it interesting. It's been on my mind about whether I'd like to get into wedding photography, and I had two weddings the past two weekends, where I took my camera (an old D50 with 18-200mm VRi lens). I thought I'd try take some photographs (though never once asked people to pose for me, didn't want to intrude), and also observe w...

Just to say thank you to everyone who commented to this thread and also those who PM'd me:P We didn't move the hide in the end, but because it is sited at the bottom of a small slope, I was able to cut a low level flap in it and lower the perch areas to about 12/18 inches above actual ground area. This means I can bring a natural backdrop into play:) A square of white painted hardboard c...

Pixel count
I always understood the 'problem' with the 5DII and similar was that the sensor was capable of resolving so much detail it showed up the flaws in older/cheaper lenses? I switched last year to full frame and my plan was to buy decent, fast, third party lenses. The reviews of the standard zoom equivalents all reported deficiencies. It isn't that I wouldn't be able to use them, or that quality ...

Canon EOS-1D X released
This is the samples page on the Canon Japan website, given the way this has been populated in the past I wouldn't hold out hopes for a RAW image at high ISO anytime soon though. Am I missing something with this? I can only see 600x400 pixel images. The highest ISO one being 12,800 - which looks very clean. But how could you tell at that size?

Well done in admitting your mistakes, I know many pros (myself included to a degree) who won't! Why make it your last wedding assignment though? You sound like you've made a good start, identified where you can improve and the no so good points you have highlighted form the basis of a good action plan to move forward. You just need to work through them now, addressing each one in turn.

I have already bought these but I haven't really been able to try them out yet, I twisted a nerve in my leg and I haven't felt like doing anything but now that I am on the mend I am going to really start on my search again. I think that the camera I bought the Nikon D5000 which had a katz-eye installed will be a help too. Harriet

nikon 400mm f2.8
Http://www.moosepeterson.com/techtips/longlens.html might help. As you have an expensive lens I assume you know about digital image sharpening. Sharpening does not help if you have camera shake or the camera does not focus accurate. Dealing with AF first some birds have low contrast plumage which in low contrast light can cause mis focus - though the effect varies with the bird and lighting....

How To Compose Photographs!
Hello Denny, I've now woken up to a sunny morning! THanks for your comment - I haven't lost my interest in photography. By the way, I'm still trying to get to grips with my 7D. Between now and Christmas, I shall be looking forward to an operation on my right eye. Then I'll need new glasses - so, no chance of any new photo gear during 2012. Not after buying a new car! :D Frank.

Help me decide! 7D, 1Dii or iii, 5D
Have to agree there , I have 5d2s and have had 5d1 and used and edited shots from the 7D , the 5d1 and 2 produces higher quality and lower noise shots than the 7d and if this is the most important thing to you then there is no debate. Dont think the 1d3 or 1d2n would compete either , 1ds3 or 1ds4 more like ..
