Image Processing - RAW or JPEG?
I have resolved the RAW/JPEG delimna for myself. This forum has been helpful. My experience today was also helpful. I took a very nice JPEG into the printers looking for an 11x14 print. The image would print at about 200 dpi. Now that might be good enought for my fading eyesight, but not nearly as good as the recommended 300-400 dpi. I may have saved the image several times and lost resol...

Do You Shoot RAW or JPG?
Darn it! I never look at the dates! lol! Regarding my "photography has always been" comment, I was thinking along the lines of slide film in that was (still is) what more serious photographers use(d) without the printing lab's "contributions". I believe the only post processing trick one can do here is cross processing. Please correct me if i'm wrong. have to admit, that i cant.... never us...

Confused over RAW images
Ah RAW converters tricky, I use Capture 1 it is lower cost than lightroom and you get more updates for new cameras before they make you buy a new version, but lightroom does more image cataloguing and image management. Battles will rage over which produces the best RAW conversion, but I prefer C1 then the DPP (the Canon tool you get free with your camera) then the Adobe RAW engine. I find...

RAW or JPEG format ??
Tell me why I cannot batch process more than one RAW file at a time and use saved settings on some of the parameters? Cos you haven't found the right "button" in C1? :)

No brick walls needed - we can finally agree. :-) A rather tenuous agreement, but technically agreement none the less. Doug

About to go RAW
Quote:I would walk away from Capture One then as it's not just a RAW conversion software but a full image editing package (a good product though).Your not getting your Captures mixed up are you Barry Capture One is a very good raw convertor and one I have used extensively plus the support is excellent, though Lightroom may well be worth a try if you want spend less time in front of the compu...

how advisable is editing?
The movie analogy is good. Though there are those film makers who strive for the ultimate reality and do the editing in-camera, the result never appeals and just seems an indulgence.

Lightroom or CS3 for RAW processing
It was discussed on there fairly recently and the general view seemed to be that for quality of RAW processing, as opposed to user-friendliness etc, C1 was still top of the pile. Thanks CB, Did that relate to C1 v 4. and C1 pro or was it specific to the pro version?

Shot in RAW, save as...?
Wanted to just echo. This is my work flow as well.Working and saving non destructive layers to re tweek as decide later.Or back to original 16 bit Background COPY I convert RAW to TIFF, as it will be the file I work in PS and save as layers. If I do not save it as layers, and need to tweak the editing in PS, I would never get it back from RAW stage. And I can't save layers in JPEG. Don't r...

JPG and Raw
is there any point / advantage in downloading say Nikon Capture NX2 for editing RAW files? Its the only software that will give you full access to the native RAW data in the NEF files. For example you can select the picture control options in RAW.

JPEG V RAW
Ron, even if you have solved your jpeg problem I would recommend you get yourself a card reader to copy your files to your PC with Windows Explorer (or buy downloader pro). It tends to be far quicker, easier and also better for the camera. Ian
