lightroom vs photoshop
There is often confusion between editing and manipulation. I agree with everything you say. The scope and capability of Photoshop is astounding. I started using it in 1991 (version 1!) when we used to develop colour films in hotel rooms, scan the resulting negs via PS, noodle with the levels and unsharp mask and then transmit them to London from all over the world. The modems we used then we...

Lightroom v.1
Samosa, as nobody has come up with an answer to your question, I'll give you my take on it. I should say from the outset that I don't know how the Adobe on-line order system works - never having used it, but I think it very unlikely that you'll be successful in downloading LR from the US site: 1. Often, when placing an order, companies will want an email address to send the serial numbe...

Lightroom idiot needs help.
Hi Gaucho, I think you are going to have to learn the hard way as most of us have done. Your best bet is to go through Julieanne Kost's videos to get a decent grounding. If you just dive in blindly you're bound to come a cropper. Thanks for the link superb, even explains how I can export to LR from DXO, about quarter way through; still baffled why it didn't come up via google. Thanks a...

Elements or Lightroom?
Just imported latest shoot into both Elements and LR. The latter converts to DNG is that the same as RAW?? Or did I miss an option when downloading?

Lightroom really frustrating.
The early versions of LR3 were very leaky; the current version is pretty good - make sure you are up to date. Earlier this month I shot and processed 2800 images on location with a 4 year old laptop. No problems.......

CS4 or Lightroom ?..........or both.
Hi there I currently use Adobe Elements 7. I'm thinking of upgrading to CS4 or Lightroom, but I'm not sure of the benefits. Could I just use Lightroom with Elements, or would I be better off using CS4 as well?

Lightroom - v - Photoshop
Lightroom sharpening is derived from these ideas from ten years or more ago, and is based on widely accepted logic (it's described here amongst the UPDIG processing guidelines, for instance). Once-only sharpening is still adhered to by many, but it's very far from being the unchallenged idea that it was a decade ago—hence there are multiple opportunities to sharpen through the LR workflow.

Nikon Capture NX2 - considering Lightroom 4
Nikon camera settings are applied to jpeg files, but jpeg files are not synonymous with highest image quality. I will have a better idea of whether or not I am right when I have compared the two systems in some detail. Len thats only in the preview that you view in Lightroom, when you export either to a file or photoshop it then applies the settings you have made in Lightroom to the file, w...

RAW Software - which one is best?
Quote:Silkypix for raw devThat program is so underated, whats the latest edition of the software like ??? Its very good and they do tend to update the software regually as soon as a new camera comes out. I think the reason it is under rated is because it is complicated and there is such a vast array of settings that are not immdiatly understood or easily accsesed and also the translated jap...

Adobe going subscription only.
Lets be honest folks--There is No problem really, is there ? I stopped cataloging my files in Lightroom a long time ago..Why you may ask, because I don't need a catalog system. All my Folders are dated and named. Every JPG I have used for Comps or Internationals are in the Folders for those comps etc. so I know how to find them and not duplicate them. Same with my Tiffs & Raw.. After I have ...

Quad Core v i5 Processor?
You might need a dedicated graphics card if you want to add HDMI, but I'm not sure why you're dead set on the machine you've been looking at? At £400 you can buy a desktop with 2nd generation Core i3 processor, decent amount of RAM, probably a DVI connection. I'd be surprised if such a PC wasn't a drastic improvement over what you've got even if it isn't quite as nippy as a Core i5 or i7. Y...

desktop pc what specs?
A few years ago, I bought a custom-built machine from a local dealer. When it went wrong and needed a new hard-drive, I learned that the Windows and the pre-loaded software, Photoshop, Office etc were all pirate copies. And of course the dealer had closed down! I now buy branded machines, Fujitsu Siemens CAD workstations, that work straight of the box. In the unlikely event of a problem, ...
