Why I have to leave Olympus
USE FILM again !! My boy was GIVEN an Olympus OM2n with 50mm f1.8 and 70-150mm Zuiko lenses and gets very good results -- no 'SOFTWARE' problems at all -- I develop his B&W and most of his C41 or take it to a High Street Pharmacy which has an account with SIGFOTO laboratory who do an excellent job of processing and printing C41.

Ahhh, Lurcio (Frankie Howerd) Sorry, but I couldn't resist that one! ;) I'm sure if you worked in a camera shop 20 years ago, you'll remember Up Pompei. Anyway, come on put some of your images up, it's your duty as a Lurcio to do this and I'm sure your images will be great. The ides of March are upon you. Yes I do remeber watching Up Pompei :D And as Joe B said "This is only a forum" and ...

Full frame trend
Olympus is a big company - bigger than most realise. They produce many optical products, not just cameras and have cornered the market in certain medical devices. Despite Olympus's recent financial scandal, it seems to be felt that Nikon is more vulnerable as it is more camera-orientated.

What will Canon do about the D800?
Pixel binning will allow the user to have the benefits of very high resolution or very low noise depending on their requirements. I think this may be the basis on which the 41Mp Nokia sensor for camera phones will be operating. As there is no optical zoom, resolution will be reduced when you use the digital zoom, thereby keeping the noise level the same and you will still get a decent photo...

To Bridge or not?
These are a few pics from last year. You shoudl be able to find out what zoom etc. from the Exif. Most of the pics were shot with the FZ100 and some editing done (mainly because I like to bring out the colour and detail) but there are settings in the camera to make the colours vibrant etc. You can download a manual from the Panasonicv website to have a scour through to see what it does. The ...

How long and what got you into photography?
Got going back in early sixties,my dad and uncle would spend hours in their darkroom (AKA mums bathroom) hand tinting negatives I loved watching the print emerging in the dishes. Dad took me to a Russian trade show at earls court and I ended up with a russian twin lens reflex, cant remember the make wish i still had it might be worth a bob or two. Had various cameras over the years Rollieflex...

D800 vs D800E sample photo at 100%
An interesting article from Nikon on the D800, it covers much of what is debated in this thread. They also decided to mention diffraction. Stopping aperture down increases depth of field, making the foreground and background sharper. Stop aperture down too far, however, and diffraction will actually cause the image to lose definition. The effects of diffraction are partly influenced by the ...

What do people have against EVF...?
For me it is a case of apples and oranges, EVF can be useful. I have Canon slrs and as a walk about an Olympus EPL1 with a VF3 EVF. ( By the way the standard lens on the EPL1 which feels really flimsy delivers outrageously sharp images for a camera and lens kit that cost me £249!- see Innerleithen Chimneys on my portfolio) Without the EVF the EPL1 is half the camera, with it , you ha...

NEW Olympus OM-D
Why do you think this is at an inflated price, the X100 sold for about £1000 and the latest Fuji for even more. The market will decide if the price is inflated or not. Let's see what it's selling for in 6 months time. The X100 doesn't sell for £1000 now.

does your camera look dated
You tell me, I don`t think so, this one even has built in spot metering :) Another favorite of mine is the MJU11, crisp 35mm lens, weather sealed, spot metering, and fits in a jeans pocket :) http://www.olympus.co.jp/jp/fun/wallpaper/camera/dl.cfm?id=66&type_id=3&la=en

Because I own a 7D I have a Sigma 17-70mm for people/portrait shots with the odd landscape thrown in. Canon 70-200mm f4 for candid people and some far off landscapes, 400mm f5.6 for Birding/nature, Sigma 150 Macro. All of these covers my kind of photography. If I was doing more landscapes I would buy the 10-20mm to go with what I got. Don't need any more. My 17-70 makes the 50mm redundant.
