Some Equestrian Photography Questions
Yes, I have to agree with Keithh on that one. I have been successfully doing portrait work for over 8 years now without a 70-200. I use a 50mm prime mostly and get fabulous results. I guess it's down to personal preference. Oh, and I don't do weddings, stuff that for a game of soldiers, but yes, I think if I did the 70-200 would be a required piece of kit. But thank you for your best wishes Tom...

Hey many thanks for all of your comments, I think iv opened a can of worms with this subject! I really appreciate all your feedback on this & the guidance is clear. For me to continue working on my photography part time, evenings and weekends and just enjoy the time doing something I have a passion for, and fingers crossed I make a few quid along the way! Opinions on the Canon 70-200 F4 USM
Thank you for all your comments... an 8 hour round trip but I'm home with camera and lens - now need to charge battery before I can play! Battery had just enough charge for me to have a quick look - and as I stopped off at a pub on the way home was asked if I could shoot their karaoke evening. However, for English readers, the pub reminded me of Early Doors... so I left ;-)

Speedlights for portraits
Money watt value go for battery powered studio lights. bowens do a good one, never have to worry were the mains socket is and power failure extension lead long enough think the head can use any light mod.

help needed to improve photos.
I agree with Jestertheclown. I used to upload images for votes as I thought was a good way of seeing how good/bad my photos were. Nothing could be further from the truth. I now upload for critique as this is the best place to get feedback on images. Thanks to feedback I received on 1 image of Jamie Archer I was able to go away and have an other go and came back with a far better image.

Yes, we can select the colour temperature with the modern Bron packs but I've always left it at standard. Yes, Bron has gone to a lot of trouble to keep the colour temperature constant over the power range, which is why we renewed all our packs when we went digital. With lesser makes, the colour temperature can change by more than 100 degrees for each stop of power variation. The new S...

views on the EOS 400D
Ooops sorry. £450 was the figure i meant to type! If you keep an eye on this site, you might find that the Canon EF-S 15-85 occasionally comes within reach of your budget. For a portrait lens, I would suggest the Canon 50mm F1.4, or the 85mm F1.8. Many people have good things to say about the much cheaper 50mm F1.8 "nifty fifty", but my experience of this with the 400D has not been good. ...

The shiny screens a re a bit of a problem especially if you are going to be out and about so if you want to go apple I suggest you get it converted to a mat one, or just buy a computer from another vendor the user interface and applications are far more important than the OS or vendor of the ma...
