How long and what got you into photography?
Got going back in early sixties,my dad and uncle would spend hours in their darkroom (AKA mums bathroom) hand tinting negatives I loved watching the print emerging in the dishes. Dad took me to a Russian trade show at earls court and I ended up with a russian twin lens reflex, cant remember the make wish i still had it might be worth a bob or two. Had various cameras over the years Rollieflex...

Pentax Kr
Thanks for those wise words. I am aware that people will have their favourite camera/s and all advice is taken into consideration. As I said before, my Nikon D5000 takes stunning pics especially when fitted with the Nikkor 16-85. It is though not the easiest of cameras to navigate round the menu and most settings do not have short cuts. However, both the lens and body weigh a considerable a...

best entry level Dslr
I bought my 13 year old daughter the Pentax kx, she loves it and has already learnt a lot about photography and taken some great shots (which she won't let me show :D). Great for the first timer with loads of opportunity to learn.

Whats your favourite camera?
Agree the Contax139 was a fine camera - I still have a brace of them. My favourite camera at the moment is the 300D with the Canon 17-85mm on it. However, last Sunday I dusted the EOS 33 off, stuck the EF 20-35mm on it and I am now looking at a fantastic set of colour prints. Well, I like them, anyway. :)

Hi I'm new here what Dslr?
You said in your OP that you wish to shoot landscapes. Pentax are brilliant for that kind of use, as they are the most waterproof cameras out there (to my knowledge). I've been out in rain and snow with mine, and never had any problems, even when my friends pack up and hides their cameras from the elements. I would also invest in a sturdy tripod, as that's a "must have" for landscapes.

If it's anything like the K-r, don't hestate. I almost got the K-x but found I could afford the k-r. K-x is certinly one of the best reviewed cameras of the last year or so.

Pentax K-x ISO
The iso is set to iso 200 for a reason. Base iso has a lower dynamic range than 200. ISO 200 hundred is the optimum minimum iso on your kx.

Pentax K-X or Nikon D3100?
....but the principle remains the same... "While anyone contemplating buying a camera and not already "tied in" to a particular brand may be interested in the opinions of other users, I think we do have to caution against placing too much significance on those opinions. The fact of the matter is that most of the products by most of the major manufacturers are now so good that there is ver...

DSLR or bridge camera?
Thanks Strawman and Jester and everyone who has taken the time to comment and pass on their knowledge to a newbie, it is really helpful to get different opinions, I will take my time and think it through a bit in light of what you have said. I'll let you know once I decide. Linda

Canon s95 - God of Cameras or Martin Clunes?
You could also steady him quite efficiently without a tripod Not sure about that. I've definitely noticed a bit of wobble around the edges. I got the magic go-ahead this morning "You're not going to shut up about this camera until you buy it, are you?" - I also reminded myself that at least with distance selling I can send it back if I don't like it.
