Need help on starting a photo studio...
I have now had my own studio in NW England for a year now so maybe I can offer you some pointers. I was lucky in that my career change was forced - I ws made reduntant from the construction industry and was able to convert my hobby into a business. Crucially I was able to get grants for the capital expenditure, a rent-free studion and office (for the first year) and unlimited business advice...

Portable Studio advice please ...
The joy of high-key lighting is that you can set it up and forget about it and concentrate on getting the best out of your subjects. If you know the basics and can vary the lighting then you have more options for your clients and it can set you apart from the competition. High Key is great for the younger generation, but alot of teens/adults seem to prefer the mean and moody low key stuff. ...

Studio lights for Product Photography
With tins I would use soft light, try shooting through a brolley . You can alsotry daylight on a bright day but just out of the sun. You should get even light and no reflection using this method. I used this to photograph swathes of coloured formica which are a nightmare under flash lighting.

Advice pls restoring old scanned photos
Congratulations on getting a photo in your local paper! That's great :) I've only shot a little bit of rugby myself (I tend to play rather than watch) but I had a few good results from a tournament I went to in the summer. Apart from the blurred ones and the ones where I'd missed the action completely that is! As for restoration, don't forget the patch tool. That can be very quick at men...

Studio lighting set up
Ahhh this is one thing about the EPZ forums, the Resurrection of threads from the last decade all down to the way the forum brings back search results. I've done it myself, answered a question only to discover the thread was 6 years old.

Bruce, you have some fabulous images in there. Why not upload one each day to the gallery and give an extended guide to how it was taken? Then link to it from this thread? Question from me - what ring flash do you use?

Anyone heard of "Lencarta" Studio 3 Flash Kits
Ah, thanks for the clarification on the power scale, that makes sense. Whilst I agree with you on the suitability of the units for all lines of work, and you have to remember I have no experience in these matters, from what I have seen on various podcasts etc.The likes of 'the big two' will appeal to a certain type of studio. With the heads having the ability to work from DC or AC sources and ...

I have decided to go for another property now. It is quite a bit more expensive but is in a good location and it has 9ft high ceilings. Lucian It would seem that Lucian has taken on board at least one piece of the the advice given i.e. a larger property would be needed to house his backdrops etc. Presumably during the "It's suddenly gone quiet" period Lucian had been busy searching fo...

Good job done then Jules. That's what I call a professional! Sheila (see the next post)

So they come to a forum and ask for advice - sounds reasonable to me... But then get driven away by people who have a lot to say but nothing to contribute. Sad. So you have been 'lumbered' with the job 'cos the other person left. Rethink the brief and represent it to your management... and take a chill-pill friend. Enough said.

I have now decided that until Lucian provides a link to his website thereby proving his almost mythical existance, then we should abstain from answering his questions. Many of the answers can then be based upon the service he provides.

Wedding Photographer
Just to let people know, I have just got back from the first official wedding shoot. Everything went OK got some great pics, sun a little harsh but found some shaded areas. Got really cold so we moved indoors to take some shots, the place was great as it had some very big fireplaces and pianos etc... A nice staircase proved very useful aswell. Got asked on the day to stay for the meal and...
