Just a few years ago Charlotte Bradshaw would have only picked up a camera to take snapshots of her family on holiday. But five years on, Charlotte is about to complete her degree in photography, and with magazines and newspapers both taking an interest in her work she really does have every reason to be smiling.

In the early 1990s a couple of students discovered a small, enigmatic Russian camera, the Lomo Kompakt Automat, and created a new style of artistic experimental photography with their first unorthodox snapshot cavortings.

You may not be inspired but you will be influenced. I agree wholeheartedly. I've been given the task of curating a Pinterest board for Drownedinsound.com of all the music photography I've commissioned as photo editor there (I'm still adding to it as I type). Looking through the work and adding it to the board makes me realise; A - that I'm very privileged to have to opportunity to ...

That still doesn't explain how you define and measure '50% resolution' The same way as "everybody else" who wants to do it ;) Fuji did it (and still do) for their films, comparing resolving power in lp lines/mm with a 1000:1 target and a 1.6:1 target. You can achieve something similar by 1/ scanning a 1000:1 target and printing out a copy having significantly reduced the target contrast so...

My view on it is this: A limited camera will restrict the type of shots you can do well. If you stay within those limitations, you can produce pictures as good as any more expensive camera. A more fancy camera with a better lens will open up a wider range of shots that you can do well, and more easily. I speak from experience here - I used to use an all manual Practika MTL, and my earliest p...

D200 to D7000 - what would I be losing?
Lens technology hasn't changed much for many years. The quality of a lens has always been mainly related to how well it was made - how low the tolerances were and what materials were used. In the case of a digital camera there is a still a fairly steep development curve as sensors, AF systems and firmware get improved with every generation. This year's entry level is often better (in IQ terms) ...

Fuji acknowledges film camera demand
.. Last year I bought second hand a Canon EOS and a Yashicamat TLR. I used these in the earlier part of last year before getting committed to the project. When completed I will revert to using my film cameras regularly - which I enjoy doing - as I have for the last 60 odd years. And for as long as I can. jas I think some, who have gone straight onto digital, will never realise the s...

Lomography cameras
If I want to produce vignetting or soft focus, I can add that in software. Of course, everyone is entitled to use the camera they choose for themselves, but I personally can't see why I would want to pay more for a camera with a restricted feature set, poor optics, and poor reliability. But that's the thing - you don't buy a holga (or any other toy camera) expecting tons of features, am...

Camera Make
Majority of photographers like to know what camera make and lens was used. The rest is upto the person submiting the images on whether he/she desides to give more info. If Exif has not been omitted then it should be easy to right click and find out. But best if within the image on forum. I been photographing for quite a few years and I always like to see the above. Snobbery or anything else h...

Texturizing Photos
We could upload textures to the download area. That would be a good thing to share backgrounds, providing no one is precious about their images? I'll start by add one I've used on several of my recent photos. Flaky PaintIf you want to add them select "wallpaper" as the category for now and if we get a few we will create a specific Textures category. Wow, what a mice treasure trove of informati...

Camera of the decade: my top 10
Have not owned 10 so cannot compile a list ;-) However the Canon 5D is significant not because of it's image quality but what it represented. Full frame at an amateur price level (all be it a well paid amateur). What this did is keep the price of crop sensors down and forced Nikon to up their game. The result is 5 or 6 creditable companies making DSLR's. This is great for the consumer. The 30...
