Just to say, the freebie 'picassa' software, from google, does a good job of B&W conversion, and also sharpens pretty well, as long as you have a quality file to start with. It also has a 'glow' filter, that i think would give you the look you are after. You've got PSP 8, why not upgrade to PSP X? It's usually only one or two versions behind PS (i.e. usually what PS has in this version PSP will have in one of the next two).
