I have just replied to your other thread about studios but I think the qdvice given by Left Forum two above is spot on in terms of getting your actual photograhy on to the right lines.

I must admit to having little interest in current camera club vogue here in South Bucks for street scenes and high key almost at the detriment of any other subject; luckily today's whims and fads will fall to the bottom of the pile to be followed by another fashion; the danger with the camera club mentality is that like begats like and some but not all members end up imititaing each other endea...

As you shoot Nikon a good starting point is to use matrix metering. Nikon, particularly on the more recent bodies using matrix, analise's colour, contrast and brightness in many parts of the image - and responds quite well to common grad ND effects like darkening a sky. Initially it might be as well to bracket perhaps 0.66 stops either side as you do rather more post processing than many do.

Having adopted Lightroom as the main workflow and RAW processing package since setting up my photography business at the start of the year, I must say that I find it absolutely superb. In particular, the ability to set up one-click presets is a fantastic time saver. I find that I only want to move into PS CS5 for about one image in every 100. LR handles all the rest perfectly.

Still lifes

This was the first effort. Straight out of lightroom (no photoshop) - I did add a slight vignette - couldn't resist. If I were to work on it properly, I would use transform on the back cotton reels, remove a few stray cotton threads. I might even add some light texture and convert to mono. Any comments - primarily on the lighting?

No you're right, it isn't as dark as that. ;) The problem is, I think, I am shooting with a lens with a max aperture of f/3.5 whereas your S95 has a max aperture of f/1.7 which is vastly better for video in dark conditions. But stick a fast lens on my Pen and I would expect a truer result.

iPad 2 ??

Rumour has it next March. But if you want it, just buy it; or wait forever for the next version and next version and next.

You may be interested in this Course, details of which I received from Loxley Colour this morning: We are proud to announce that Loxley Colour will be hosting the 'How to Book 70 Weddings a Year' workshop with Andrea Barrett as detailed below... (The "details below" were in the form of a graphic and did not paste into this post - but if you google for it I am sure you will find it.)

If you look at this website, most of the children have been airbrushed, just subtly, but still airbrushed, because a photo in that style would look awful with blotchy cheeks or uneven redness etc. It's not always a bad thing.

I think it depends on what's going on inside your head while you look at the photograph that makes it so great. Sorry for the super short, lame, and unconstructive reply...

Has it ended? Yep, 'fraid so. 9th to 16th was my slot. Went by so fast, and an almost silent day to finish it off... :( I'll sneak in the answers to this last lot though! Did you enjoy it? Sure did. It was good to get a few things off my chest that I'm not really talking about to people around me, work colleagues etc. Did you learn anything from doing it? Hmm, I probably didn't learn ...
