Book Reviews
Annabel is one of the best known portrait photographers who was one of the first to create the soft "anyone can be beautiful" portrait styles. This book illustrates a wide range of techniques Annabel uses in her commerical business. The good thing is the people are real so it's not full of models to illustrate techniques, these are actual clients. The book has plenty of sketches showing lighting set ups and lots of advice from getting the job to providing the proofs and, in true Rotovision style...

Nikon D3100 or D5100 ??
I second the D3200, I'm getting one as a second body to my D7000, specs look amazing for the price plus its new tech so with have more longevity than the D3100/D5100 for not really any more money. Matt

What will Canon do about the D800?
Pixel binning will allow the user to have the benefits of very high resolution or very low noise depending on their requirements. I think this may be the basis on which the 41Mp Nokia sensor for camera phones will be operating. As there is no optical zoom, resolution will be reduced when you use the digital zoom, thereby keeping the noise level the same and you will still get a decent photo...

Sharpness and Resolution are not Art ?
This was my interpretation of the Arab spring , tried the symbolism of the Iran / Israeli conflict , the tentative balance of where the hook may fall and the dismemberment of nations flags. The significance (or otherwise) of the components are left to the viewer to decide how the sum of the parts form the whole. Anyway , no one gets my stuff so , Im gonna drink beer and sod off for a...

Micro 4/3 for professional use
Thanks Pete. I never use JPEG, if RAW is available. But it looks like the RAW images are also corrected in-camera. That said, I used my Pen with old manual Canon FD lenses and never found any issues. So correction can't be overly drastic. But it leads, I guess, to a whole new discussion! What matters more - the end result, or how you get there? ;)

How do you come up with a project and more importantly how do you keep motivated to complete it?
I know what you mean about loosing your mojo! I haven't done much over the last couple of months but recently I came across a link on epz to some pics taken trying to recreate old photos of concentration camps etc. This started me thinking I'd like to find some of our local area and I'm going to try to recreate them. So far some found, but not always easy to figure out the spot they were tak...

Yes, I agree, two lights as the main, and use the speedlite on the highest stop behind the subject, and it will highlight the background as well as give a nice highlight around the edges of peoples heads to give a more interesting group shot, that's if you place the flash in a correct position. I'm investing in the 500/500R, how is the kit so far? How much was the power pack? Or was it incl...

Going for a canon will open up a world of accessories to you that wasn't available in your olympus format. same for nikon. Pentax while being the oldest slr maker only make three DSLR's so they cram an amazing amount into their entry level KR it is a brilliant camera including the Optical stabilization. Which means every lens you buy comes with the anti shake ability in the camera unlike...

Is this how feedback should be given ?
I agree with LeftForum it is OK to give negative feedback and the person who gave the feedback was quite specific about what he / she did not like. How can you improve and change if people do not say what they really think. I dont like that photo either although it made me look at the portfolio and I did like some of the images there but the majority do not appeal to me. They are a bit wei...

There;s still a bit of logic left in me yet Bloggs ;-) Been turned to the dark side of "making pretty pictures" for a living from the very logical engineering/IT past... as you can see, Ian's logic is also intact... and he's back using the Force in IT land again
