My post perhaps did not answer your question fully as the video shows how to make a grey background white at the time of shooting. Here is a good tutorial that will show how to make a good selection of the background so it can easily be changed or replaced. It is quite long at 34 mins. Another one. Hopefully one of these will be helpful to you :).

I have the 50 1.8 it's a great lens. I though I'd lost it recently cos my camera bag felt empty it's that light. Let me know if you want an experimental image, say a subject at closest focus distance with a given background item to show amount of blur

Lighting problem
Thanks everybody for your comments and suggestions. The actual studio has been set up just under 12 months now. I originally went on a Calumet Studio lighting course to get an idea of the basic setup. To be honest, the girl that is taking the photos at present has not looked after the equipment and the backdrop is certainly not ideal as it shows in the photo. It was originally set up with a ...

What will Canon do about the D800?
Pixel binning will allow the user to have the benefits of very high resolution or very low noise depending on their requirements. I think this may be the basis on which the 41Mp Nokia sensor for camera phones will be operating. As there is no optical zoom, resolution will be reduced when you use the digital zoom, thereby keeping the noise level the same and you will still get a decent photo...

Chromakey green screen
Tom got the Green backdrop.....not sure its going to be any better than white....done a few quick shots .. and not too pleased with them... think it might be a pig in a poke... more photography stuff that may not see light of day too many times... but we will wait and see....Cheers....

Is green screen an option? Typically yes, thanks. But this time i'll be doing overlay textures etc over pink like this. The shoot is next week so i'm quite looking forward to it now.

Do you have to be psychic?
Yes, well the owl is hard to miss so close I suppose! Yet I routinely do miss! Tracking at 300mm even a fairly slow moving and large bird as this owl is hard. I fire off on rapid burst and hope! Also, a 300mm on an APS-C sensor is still only about 450mm and too short for many birds without heavy cropping yet a longer lens (or extender) would probably only make it harder? May look into a 2x exte...
