Rising Mist

Rising Mist by PatrickSmith
The last light of the day came through a hole in the clouds at the 2300 foot level of Mt. Diablo, 20 miles east of San Francisco. I waited for the light to illuminate the farm house and some of the misty clouds. After I took the shot I uploaded last week, I ran further up the hill looking for a good chunk of lichen covered rock to include. I found it and waited. It almost never happened, but for a minute or so, it was like this. I'll admit that luck played a large part in getting this shot!
Things are drying up now so I may only have 2-3 more weeks of green grass before the dry season takes over. So I hope to get a few more like this.
Also, my company is being reorganized, so I may not be on EPZ as much as I would like for the next couple of months. But I'll check EPZ as much as I can and I'll still try to upload at least one per week.

I don't like them either Kim.
Too patient sometimes, Sarah!
Yes Tony, I'll be around but probably at very unusual times of the day I think.
Patrick
Could be a shot of the Black Mountains in Wales!

I've been taking the liberty of showing a friend your pictures, as she might be moving to live in SF in the next year or so - she's a bit worried about the fog!

Kath

You think so Dave?
Thanks Adrian. True, I did wait for clouds that possibly might do this, and I did climb over 1,000 feet to get to this spot, and I did compose it. But if it wasn't for this one minute of light, I would have come back home with only the one previously uploaded shot in a few versions!
Angela, why is she afraid? It won't bite! Will she live in the city? Where I live, (20 miles away) I rarely see fog and it gets nice and hot in the summer half of the year.
LOL - Kath!
Yes Cathy, it did look like steam was rising from a volcano or something. I rarely see that here.

Hope your work problems turn out well....
Jouko
PS I´ve been a bit down and tired for few hours......I´m sure tomorrow brings better news again....I´m trying to get rid of this negative attitude, but it´s not easy.....

Ron

so I'll check them out so I can give them a good thrashing!
Ooooo I cant wait .... lolol
Dave
Jouko, it is perfectly normal to have these feelings. So don't resist them and don't get rid of them. Just let them happen. It is part of a process that needs to run its course. I don't know if I would handle it as well as you!
LOL Dave. Here, let me practise on my shot now. 'This is pure rubbish. I would be embarrased to put this god awful thing up on a public website, but obviously your standards are so low that your belly is dragging in the putrid filthy mud that is the foreground of this shot!'
Okay... I'm ready... after I eat lunch....
Patrick

Are you sure you've not been over here in the Dales for a while...could be England with it's greenery!
Janet

Greg

This is as brilliant as the last one, love that touch of mist, looks like someone letting off steam...........lol.Those clouds are amazingly beautiful and the textures too.Amazing composition.Take care.Ann

Thankyou for your comments, much appreciated.I did use layers,on each flower individually then merged them all together using photomerge and filled in the blank space with the bg colour of the flowers.
Nikki

Subtle but nice. (sorry, hate the "nice" word, but it is nice!!)
Martin

stay well

Janet, that may be true now, but it will look a lot different in a month or two. It wil be bone dry up here, so I'm getting my green grass shots now.
Greg, you should get more clouds in Seattle than down here. So you have a good chance for something like this. Can't give you any hints about where to go though. I've never been there.
Ann, that must have created quite a large file until you flattened it!
Thanks Martin for the nice comments...lol...
Terry, I'll show you how to do it when you move back up here. Though we may not have clouds by the time you arrive.
Dennis, it is a great spot, but it does take a long time to reach this spot. And the grass is turning brown now, so you may want to wait until next winter.
Patrick
Wonderful shot right through with lovely saturated colours and tones.

This appeals to me as I am a fan of moody clouds. Lots of photographers attempt to get the bright fluffy blue clouds, but I like the more stormy/heavy feel which this has. The UK has this type of clouds more than most. Catching the light coming through adds to the whole image.

Yes John, it does seem like a fire. But these are just clouds. In the summer, it very well could be fire though.
True Edger, you guys have more dramatic clouds over there. I have to wait for a long time for decent clouds!
Nigel, we will see. I'm not sure what is going to happen yet, but I know my schedule will change for sure!
LOL Kris (Ex), I don't get a chance for an 'English Countryside' sort of shot so I took advantage while I could!
Patrick

Once i get to your level of quality i'll be happy

Cheers and have a wonderful week,

This could be scotland or the lakes mate..
But as much as i like the shot,i think in all honesty its not wowing to view as your other shots do..
For me too much trees, and a cenralish horizon line just does not have that visual impact for me..
Hope you dont mind the honest opinion.
Dave
No problem Dave. I want real opinions. Otherwise I'll get deluded! This is more of a local interest spot for hikers. And it is so rare to have any decent clouds at all that I was glad for that! A nice lake would be good here, but there are no lakes!
Patrick

Equally as good as your last!
Hate these adverts!!!!!
