It's a bit confused, really. Could just as well be a close-up on an abstract oil-painting.
What it needs is some focal point to orient the eye - perhaps a knot, the grain of the bark, etc. Here the eye just keeps roaming around, not knowing whre to settle.
Dramatic colours, though.
