This is Captain Slack, so named due to his lack of effort at the gym when we all used to go in the late 90's.

He's just entering the world of DSLR's with a 20D and was round to get some advice, so I took advantage of having a model and put a little beauty dish on the 580 EX, got a 1m off camera flash cable, then took a few shots with the light held high to the left.

This is one where he didn't have his eyes closed, which was rare.

Not done a great deal to it, cropped in quite a bit as there was chuff all in the background

Excellent!!!!!

Great light and a portrait packed full of character, the twinkle in his eye is superb. Looks like a guy with a tale to tell and capable to tell it.

Well done Ade hope this does well, it should.

Dougie

I have been known to criticise your portrait lighting in the past Ade, but this is pretty well spot on. Could maybe do with a blink of fill, but nothing to worry about. It's nicely framed, sharp where it matters & there's a nice touch of humour in the expression. Good one!

Cheers folks

Even though Slack is a ******, this is one of my fave shots of the year, and alas it's rather predictably bombed on EPZ.

Cheers Dougie - words like that from a man of your photographic experience and background reassure me that I've not backed a dud here Smile

Rog - I'm honoured to get such plaudits about my lighting from such a fantastic portrait photographer as you Wink
