Having done a few wind power shots I thought I'd get a contrast with the old Ferrybridge Cooling Towers!

We pulled up off the old A1, and sat in the car for 20 minutes and watched the rain... nearly giving up and going home for a curry I'd made.

then it gradually got brighter until we had glorious sunshine bursting through the clouds colouring them this amazing red.

It's old school power, but still can produce some cool effects!

Lovely saturated colours in the sky contrasted with the muted reflection work well. Small criticism is the dark areas in the corners.

Superb, love the movement blur in the steam clouds. A bit of a shame about the vignetting, but it kind of adds to the atmosphere.

Think I may do Eggborough or Drax next time Smile

My feet are still wet from that sodden grassey meadow - but got some great light, moral is to stick it out till the sun sets as it may come good.

boy did it look bad when we got there - torrential rain for ages!

Adrian, great profile information. Super shot and magic colours. I would clone out the 3 power cables running from the top of the shot to the pylon in front of the central stack and I would also remove the two pylons on the right hand side. It is still a magic shot. Well done and congrats on the HC award.

Cheers everyone

Joe, you know I laughingly said to my mates there that someone would say "clone out the power cables".

I can see the merit of doing that with a great landscape or cityscape, but when photographing a power station, I thought you could get away with leaving the power cables in - a bit like leaving a sheep in a fied shot, a beer in a bar shot or a coffe in a cafe.

I used the power lines in the composition - they are all pointing towards the middle of the cooling towers.

All commets though and thanks for taking time to do so.

Cheers
ade
