Wasn't planning on going out last night, but got a knock on the door at about 6 and there was Dave raring to go.
First time we'd tried using multiple flashes out in the city, so it's all a bit of a leaning curve.
it's a 580EX 2 on a 5D with a 24-105 lens on, with a 550EX on a tripod off to the right.
it was on ETTL mode with the "ratio" heavily weighted towards the off camera flash, so that the main flash didn't really have much effect at all.
Had a few "comms" issues, as in, the second flash didn't always go off, but its ace to be able to set the flash power of the 550 remotely from the 580.
Ended up using manual flash power as it's a bit more predictable!
But yeah - think this out-door flash stuff my be an amusement for the near future.

A very good shot...
Looks to have work well Ade.
A very nice piece of work.
Think mono would suit it better for me, just get rid of the sodium light tint in the bgnd.
Sounds like you and Dave had a bit of a laugh Ade.
How is Dave anyway, think he's been a bit down lately.
Great image by the way, may of tried a mono version.
He's in good form Mike - think he's actually quite amused by the reception his new "style" is getting, rather than down as some people have assumed.
Done a mono version too Paul and it looks good - the sodium hints at a more "urban" feel. Some of the shots it looks quite red in the background, that's proper evil!
an outstanding photograph as is in my opinion!
really like the lighting and the atmosphere of the shot.
Was bloody cold thats what i will say
Like it mate shows a slim me off i think...
Just a sn
hame i was not over the moon with owt i got to be honest
I got about 7 really good shots, those fence things looked the bollocks on some of them.
none of the ones with you behind the fence looked that good though
yeah its a case of play and see what happens ade...
With the high iso some had bad noise and are useless to be fair.
So more light and thoise day time shots we were talking about should do well though..
PS loaded one of you
I actually like the Sodium feel, gives it a different atmosphere. Lighting looks good.
I like this - a consideration could be to zoom the flash head out some to cut some of the light falling on the gate and isolate the subject some more.
Like the way this has come out, but would be interested to see what it would look like in mono.
Film noir Adrian. Ron.
Really nice bit of lighting. I'd be tempted to clone out the white plaques on the wall to the right though - they distracted me a bit.
Nice shot ade .. if you want a tuition session I'm running an urban portrait group shoot in Newcastle on the 8th November covering exactly these type of shots
Adrian, I've no idea what your tech stuff is about (although I'm certain there are those here who will really appreciate the commentary) - all I know is that the outcome is excellent. Keep experimenting!
Terrific, gorgeous light control, love the far away expression.
You're all heart Dan
Were it only in leeds .............
Love the light in this.
good work Ade
was about to say much prefer this one than the one after this one, if that made sense....before realize the EC stamp.
great work Ade , really captured the mood here.
Well done mate ... Mr H gets you another accolade!!!
I think it's the tunnel in the bacground that clinched it Paul
It's great; love the light on Dave's jacket, and he looks very natural.
Superb Ade, extremely good light, love it.

Its only cause i look good in these images.Chiselled chin, startling good looks and the good pose i always give ya....
Me shooting you
Cannot make a fatty thin, only in ps, Too cute and cuddly looking Frans words not mine.
A crap poser. And cannot l;ook mean n moody to save your life..
So thats the reason ya get EC's with me in shot..
Slight bit of Talent but only slight. lol
I really like the approach to this, some night flash can be overpowering in one area, yet here the face is lifted well from the shadows, and there's something about the background with the tungsten tone filtered down to give a dark hue across the rest of the photo. It all goes to subtly concludes a sinister feel of the shot. And then there's the model, that swung it for you!
You sound bitter Dave
We had the same lighting kit, the same opportunities, same location, you've got a better lens than me, a newer camera, my face got photo of the week once too, so it can be used to make an effective shot. And you got an EC with it once over.
Talk about a workman blaming his tools!!!
the pose is down to the the tog, not the model mate. If I'm not stood how you want me to stand, direct me to do something different.
Oddly enough, the next shot where people could see your face only got about 20 clicks
Sure you'll come up with the goods on thursday.....
Joking Mate ya should know that
Ya get an EC great
We are a team Ade
No jelousy at all
And thats the truth
I got them triggers i was on about and done the modification on them too.
So three lights can be used with umberellas and stuff.
Hit and misss re triggering at times but its cheaper than p Wizzards
Nah mate i have never and will never be bitter over a Ec
You take things to heart at times..... READ ya should see the fun in what i was saying..
Me slim,good looking
You Podgy and cant look good for all the tea in china.
Its my good looks that wins as ya know pete loves me looks.
And he gives you awards for showing me ..
I know - lots of smilies in my reply
Something similar this week? Try 3 flashes I think - maybe some Gels to get coloured light effects?
I got Cto and other gells for the flashes so we are fine n dandy
Ps mine of you got a few clicks.
But who gives a ****
Looking forward to seeing more of your experiments with multiple flash heads.
Congratulations on the EC - well deserved.
Love the expression. The lighting is so good, well done on the EC, well deserved.
A stunning shot Ade but then in my opinion all your work is the best.
One to be proud of, quality shot.
Very effective lighting. Many thanks for explaining the set up. I have just got a Metz 60CT1 with Metz 60-40 slave flash, must get out and try something like this.
