We were showing our visiting guest the bling of the lake district on Saturday last. You know, the well phtographed bits: the boat cruise; the tourist trail, the lake islands and all the blue bits.... the pretty stuff...................... when off the starboard bow, just as our boat left the Bowness jetty, an orange flare lit up the lake?

We were fully anoraked and prepared for any inclemment weather, having paid £28 each for a return trip from Lakeside to Windermere on an old steamer called The Teal. It was crowded; there were loads of standard chocolate-box lakeland views from every side and we were surrounded by Beatrix Potter tourists doing the 'must see bits of the lakedistrict', when the orange flare fizzed!

Then came that slow drumming build up sound of an approaching helecopter; phew and gulp..... it always does something to me and every time I hear that noise it resonates with a sychronised deep thudding feeling within!!

Hey, it was an exercise!! But we weren't expecting a photo opportunity of this type and we hadn't got a tripod between us... and anyway, is a tripod any good on a boat?

So... enough prattle, here it is: the best of the 15 shots I managed to get.

Oh and reason for title is that these guys do walk on water for me and this service is just absolutely bloody fantastic.

The shot is hand held and ps assisted; hope you like it anyway and ta muchly for all recent attentions. helen x

hmm PS : you can only really see the attaching wire in the large view.... grrrr sometimes I wish I checked things more thoroughly before I put the darn things up!! h x

Take the opportunities as they arise Helen, it's often the unexpected that make the most interesting end result.
You've done well to get this and a tripod would have been a hindrance (one of the most overrated pieces of equipment I feel). A "Pod" however is almost essential to carry with you and would have been a real help here.
These chaps (and chapesses) are seriously courageous and it's comforting to know that they are out there doing that job.
Excellent shot.

Terrific action shot Helen,
The the water thrown up against that wonderful green backdrop really scores in terms of added atmosphere!

Fairly shows the situation, the downdraught of those blades kicks up the surface water. Adds atmosphere, the figures add scale. Vertical format the icing on the cake Helen. Ron.

Lovely story and picture to go with it. All you needed was a celeb to be rescued and your shot would be worth millions!o

Fantastic shot, not only the heli, but the spray and the men "walking" on the water - perfect.
