Some of the pictures I saw on e-zine are new, some are moldy oldies. This was shot half an hour ago. I was picking up a prescription, and outside the drug store was a small plot with poppies in it. I pulled out my trusty Nikon 510 and started shooting.
I have an affection for poppies. When my sister Susan was born, my paternal grandmother planted some seeds she had brought from Sicily with her in nineteen fifteen. There was no way seeds from nineteen fifteen were going to grow in nineteen fifty four, but they did. As soon as the beautiful flowers had died, my grandmother clipped off the little seed pods, and when my sister started teething and crying 24/7 my grandmother cut open one of those seed pods and rubbed the milky fluid on my sisters gums. Not only did she stop crying, but she looked insanely happy. It was only a matter of time when fifteen cops showed up with shovels and removed my grandmothers poppies. She was a fighter, and I at eleven was learning the responsibilities of being a man. I retrained her while she gave the cops the finger and screamed " som ana beech!!! To this day, I can still see the laughing cops, and my grandmother swearing and trying to escape my grip so she could kick some blue suit butt. . As the cops left, one patted me on the head, and said, "God Man"! as they left.
