214 (297)January 2013 was certainly a good month photography wise, all that snow and ice was stunning for a time, and made even more stunning by bringing us clear blue skies now and then.
It is no secret that i disliked January, its a dark, cold, empty sort of month, where no one wants to do anything or go anywhere, too stuffed after christmas to do anything too energetic. Yet as i grow older i can finally appreciate the beauty of January, its starkness, its bitterness, its solitude, and its many surprises.
As the new year began, so did i, with a new camera. Was a shaky start at first but i soon found my feet with the new camera, testing its abilities and limits.
Who knows what February will bring! I haven't got a scooby really, but if its photogenic i will most likely capture it. February could very well be a quiet month, but i refuse to sit on my bum waiting for an image to happen, i need to make that image happen ![]()
Though February has only just began, i must admit that i cant wait for February to be over, if only because i am seeing Sigur Ros playing live for the first time in the beginning of March at Wolverhampton. As an extra treat i have booked myself into the Ramada Hotel and Spa on the outskirts of wolverhampton for the night, which now means i can indulge in a glass or two of Pinot Grigio while i watch those Icelandic elves make magic. So very excited to see them, but thats 33 days away yet and i am about to begin this photographical month properly, so its time to step away from the 'puter once again and frolic outside with my camera, make merry while the sun is shining.
I have mixed feelings about January, yes you do get some different weather which since I took up photography as a hobby is a good thing, but the down side it ages me another year ![]()
I have never heard of Sigurd Ros, hope you have a great time and look forward to the blog. ![]()

I refused to let the winter get to me, and i kicked its frosty arse ![]()
As for Sigur Ros
This video sums them up better than words could ever do, just know that i love them longtime ![]()
I have not long found out who are supporting Sigur Ros, its only Blanck Mass!!! Yeah, i know, who? They helped out with the music for the Olympics,
Its drone music, post-rock electronica, rather experimental in its raw state, this version was revamped for the ceremony but the original track is worth a listen if its not too weird lol i do have strange taste in music, though i cant think of any other artist who could support sigur ros, apart from Echelon Effect, Blanck Mass is an amazing choice and now im doubly excited ![]()

Their certainly an acquired taste, Blanck Mass especially, but i love all that abstract stuff, its like musical white noise, not everyones idea of music granted, but to my ears its like modern classical music, when the baroque period was waning, moving into the romantic period, its a real good mixture of contemporary genres.
Sigur Ros, no one i know likes them, most people haven't heard of them but would have heard their music in documentaries and films (planet earth, vanilla sky), and thats what i love about them, their still mysterious, even though their enigmatic frontman is actually a closet extrovert, i guess its their made up language which is used as an instrument as opposed to a singing voice and their usage of cello bows on electric guitars and the sound they create which just blows me away!
I never thought music could sound so astounding without drugs before, but these two groups take me on trips that no lsd could ever do, and while those days are long behind me now, its still nice to escape reality now and then, i just now do it with music alone, no illegal substances needed
thats probably the real reason im so fond of their music, it gets into your head and takes you away for a little while, it instantly grabs my attention and not many forms of music can do that.
