This is a white cabbage butterfly caught in flight about to land on some flowers. Typically, I'd consider such shots as not being keeper material - but I thought this one had something special about it. Do you agree? Yes, no? What would have made it better? I already know one element - all the wings showing properly. What else?

Dont give up on this, - its a beautiful start that can be tweaked into something outstanding.
Accidents like this can be really nice, and with this, its not difficult to add a top to the wings. What does let it down is the plant, which is blurred, so it makes it look like an accidentally blurred shot. BUT, if you apply a very strong lens blur to the flower, sharpen the butterfly, and darken the flower, you have something very special thats appears its deliberate.
See mod for an example.
I added space to the top, and selected the top area of the existing frame, and used a content aware scale drag which elongated the wing; then used a black brush to shape it.
Hope this works for you,
regards
Willie

AWESOME MOD Willie!
Loved it. It's exactly how it should be for the kind of image I wanted to go for. The flower-blurring just adds to the dramatic feel of the image, and I just love it this way!
THANKS!!
I was about to go in with a no as I bet you expected from me. However, I then looked at the mod by Willie. Getting rid of the blurred flower concentrating on the nearly sharp head and white blur of the wings is rather interesting.
Just shows. Maybe should not be so quick tobin.

Thanks Paul. This just needed a bit more editing. The potential was there, I just was unable to get it all out!
Thanks pclick - indeed this one was a mixed-feeling shot for me as well, on the one hand the lack of sharpness and the blurring put me off at first, but then I started to see other things in it that I appreciated. Thanks for your comments. ![]()
