This was last Monday. Steven and I wondered down to Southsea Castle to witness the lighting of the Jubilee beacon - the beacon was not much to shout about and could hardly be seen. However, there was a purpose to this mission. A while back I bought myself a Nikon 50mm 1.8 prime and have hardly used it - but wanted to see how it performed at night - and I think it performed just great. This is an out of the "cam" image apart from a very slight sharpen, taken at around 10.00pm or so, with only the light of the moon and the street lamps around the castle, as we were on a mound near to the castle. I had to smile at this young couple as they waited patiently overlooking the castle, waiting for the "grand lighting", arm in arm one second and then engrossed in a mobile phone the next. I am dead impressed with the lens. I did increase the ISO to 800 but that is about it.

Yours did a great job for you in this night time shot!

Terrific image. Great with the flag in the b/g. I keep meaning to get a short, fast prime and seeing this makes me want one even more.
