Thank you so much for the votes and comments on yesterday's upload and for everyone who identified it. Much appreciated. Another attempt today. Fred (Badgerfred) has recommended a book so I should be able to (maybe) find out what I am taking photos of. My guess today would be a Common Blue. Thanks for having a look. Cathy

Well Cathy it's a lovely shot but not so sharp that we can't do better with a little help, if this is handheld and i suspect it is we need a higher shutter speed to help with
any movement so push your ISO up a bit and bring the aperture down to say 10 or 11 and see if that helps but you need a higher shutter speed than 1/40sec.
Hope this helps Regards Gary

Pretty well agree with what's been said, I'd just like to add it's a fine effort......

As an avid Butterfly and Moth photographer I can recommend British Moths and Butterflies: A Photographic Guide, by Chris Manley it's a little expensive, but it's a great read.....But a real must to anyone into butterflies etc, it also has a great section on caterpillars, I find it invaluable.

Along with the advice re shutter speed, I think you could crop a bit from the right
to focus more on your lovely butterfly nicely contrasted on the yellow.
It is a good idea to keep your subject off centre or on a third unless the subject calls for perfect symmetry.
