I think the image is just too tightly cropped & needs more space on the right, for the bird to look into

A good detailed and focused shot. If you have something like Photoshop or Elements you may find a very slight increase in contrast would help give this image more impact. If you also selected just the eye and gave it more contrast and then slightly lightened it this would draw the viewer's attention and give the bird more life. I think it needs a bit more room to the right of the photo as the bird looks cramped. Increasing the saturation a touch would give the photo richness. Try to make these adjustments look natural or they could ruin the delicate feel of this shot.
