I was also playing with some filters and taking photo's directly into the sunset on my trip. I think I was really very very lucky with this 'lens flare' and I hope you also think it enhances the photo!
I was thinking of trying to make the sky a deeper blue, but this is what came out the camera, so I think that's how I should show it!
