I saw this fungal scene when out with friends so was unable to do much with it. Went back alone the next day and found the crocus had succumbed to the heavy rain; all but this little straggler that luckily remained. The tree is an unusual one with Beech leaves and a white, peeling trunk which appears to be grafted onto something else. This curious little spot appealed to me!

Well spotted and captured, great detail and light.

I think the tree is a Silver Birch, looking at the trunk, maybe wrong but loads like that near me.

I would personally crop the crocus and tree out and make the toadstool the main subject in frame along with the leaves as the quality is good and befits the scene.

Thank you for the HC...what a lovely surprise. Glad I went back there now!

bfgstew....the leaves are definitely Beech, not Silver Birch but maybe the tree is a mixture of the two because the trunk is similar to a Silver Birch. The bottom few inches are very different to the rest of the trunk.

An excellent low viewpoint enhances this magical woodland scene.

Congratulations on the HC, very well deserved, a very interesting and very well captured image, it makes you stop and wonder why the other elements were included where as most fungi images would be as bfgstew suggested, love it.

Lovely - and truly elfin. I think I might be tempted to crop out the tree and some of the out of focus foreground to bring that great mushroom and the intriguing purple of the crocus closer. A

A lovely appealing shot, tones detail and light, very nice.
By the look of the tree and your discription it sounds like a silver birch,

For me, the brightly coloured crocus is one element too many but the light, detail and composition are beautiful. Congratulations on the HC!

Just seen this as today's EPZ featured image and wondered why I'd missed it first time around?......Good work.
